“Chukwudera lived a selfless life.” Fr Chris Okafor.
2 min readThe Catholic reverend father who celebrated the requiem Mass for the repose of the soul of Engineer Chukwudera Ugwuala who was buried on December 16, 2022 has described the late Dera as he was fondly called by close admirers as a man who lived a selfless life. Reverend Father Chris Okafor disclosed this while celebrating the requiem Mass at the graveside of Chukwudera Ugwuala. He told the congregation that he and the late Dera were very close when they were students at St Charles Special Science School Onitsha. It was during that time he got to understand very well the depth of kindness and love Dera had for his fellow humans.
According to Fr Okafor, Engineer Dera had a lot of dreams as a vibrant and educated Nigerian youth. “It is really bad that death has ended all his dreams.” the priest concluded.
Father Chris Okafor used the opportunity and narrated how soft-minded and selfless Dera was during his lifetime. He extolled the virtues of the deceased and appealed to the congregation to always emulate good characters from good persons like the late Dera.
For those who never knew nor met the late Chukwudera during his lifetime, Umuaka Times reported last week that Dera was a graduate of petrochemical engineering who graduated from the Federal University of Technology Owerri. After his graduation, he headed for the United Kingdom where he obtained a Masters degree in Oil & Gas from the prestigious University of Dundee, Scotland. After a brief stay in the United Kingdom, Dera returned to Nigeria after his intensive study. He remained in Nigeria briefly before embarking on yet another international trip to Turkey. As a man always on the move, Dera then took another trip from Turkey to the United States where he finally settled. It was during his stay in the Bay area of California that the cold hands of death had a grip on him.
