The glitz and glamour that accompanied the burial of Dera Ugwuala.

2 min read

It was actually painful to see a vibrant and educated young man of Dera’s standard being cut down at the prime of his life by the cold hands of death. Those who witnessed the burial were kept in the sober reflection throughout the internment process. The sad mood of the people really signaled how pained Akalites were seeing one of them die prematurely.

Despite the pains that greeted the death of Dera, there were also the glamour and glitz that were conspicuous during the burial ceremony last week. First was the dramatic arrival of the ambulance and motorcade from Owerri to Umuaka. What seriously caught the attention of the mourners including that of Umuaka Times reporters was the chariot which came alongside with the ambulance. The silver and gold colour chariot was hooked to the back of a convertible SUV which enhanced the movement of the chariot. When the people saw this, they were seriously amazed and the MC of the event, Mr Dona Ijeoma told the people who had gathered at the burial ceremony that since over 20 years he has been anchoring events in Umuaka, he had never seen any event where a chariot, the like driven by the late Queen Elizabeth was used.

Trust Akalites and some social media freaks who were around, one after the other, they went to the chariot to take some pictures they were going to post to their social media handles.

Another glamour that made people whisper was the casket used to bury the late engineer Ugwuala. The “tantalizing” casket which was ash color on the exterior while the interior was padded with highly expensive immaculate white cloth and foam, really made death look attractive. People who had the privilege of properly looking at the casket really wondered if the casket was going to be buried as well.

The beauty of the casket was so amazing that some people also felt like taking selfies with it. Those who designed the casket really made some serious impact; there were several colours of light starting from blue, yellow and more on some parts of the casket. These lights, were designed in form of motorcycle pointer and many people had time watching and admiring the casket and the light throughout the short lying in state or Engineer Dera.
