Dead man’s body exhumed. Still breathing after one year.
2 min readLast week, a mystery video purportedly emanating from Umuorji village in Amucha town in Njaba LGA of Imo State surfaced on the internet and went viral almost immediately. In the video, the body of dead man who was said to have died around November 20, 2019 and buried a month later was exhumed. Villagers who gathered to have a glimpse of the dead man’s body expressed deep shock after noticing that the body of the man was still fresh and intact.
From the back background voices of the villagers, someone who took a closer look into the casket alerted the people that the body of the dead man was still breathing. Some other voices were also shouting “abomination abomination”. Another voice of an elderly man was also overheard saying that the man killed himself.
According to the man who was narrating the incident in the video clip, the dead man was buried in another man’s land and for that, his soul refused to rest in peace. In the video also, a young girl who was said to be the daughter of the man also came and took a look at the casket and confirmed that it was her dad.
The poorly recorded video failed to mention the name of the man or the cause of his death. Several questions have been asked on the possibility of such an incident. A mortuary attendant who preferred not to mention his name to Umuaka Times said that it is possible for a dead body to last up to a year or more without decaying. “Depending on the type of embalmment, there are some embalmment chemicals which will preserve a corpse even beyond a year,” he told Umuaka Times.
Considering this expert opinion, the undecaying state the corpse of the man was found, may therefore be dismissed as unmysterious but purely scientific. If this opinion is acceptable, then another question that would certainly arise is how come the dead body of the man was still breathing? The mortuary attendant told Umuaka Times that he had no answer to this question.
Another fellow who spoke with Umuaka Times also raised the question of sainthood. According to him, the man may be on his way of becoming a saint. Umuaka Times tried to find out the basic steps a corpse needs to possess before his body will be exhumed for the process of sainthood. According to BBC, the following must be established:
Step one: Wait five years – or don’t. The process to make someone a saint cannot normally start until at least five years after their death.
Step two: Become a ‘servant of God’ AFP. … Step three: Show proof of a life of ‘heroic virtue’ AFP. … Step four: Verified miracles. … Step five: Canonisation.
None of these steps has been established by anybody by the time the body of the dead man was exhumed. Umuaka Times awaits more reports from the incident.
