EFCC arrests man for running yahoo yahoo academy in Abuja.
2 min readIn ternet fraud which is done by some Nigerians has taken a new dimension which came as a rude shock to many Nigerians two weeks ago. Afolabi Samuel, a young Nigerian man was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC in Abuja for running a “yahoo yahoo “academy within the Abuja metropolis. From what the EFCC discovered when the officials of the agency reached the venue of the yahoo yahoo academy, the man in questionthe team discovered, hired a three bed room apartment where his “students” were taught the ingredients on how to effectively commit financial crimes on the internet.
In a press statement issued by Wilson Uwujaren, an official of the agency in charge of media and publicity, the 24 year old operator of the “yahoo yahoo” academy was arrested by the EFCC alongside with 16 of his students in a well calculated operation. The students were aged between18 and 27 years. The students, the agency disclosed, were not arrested at the academy but from their hideout in Peace Court Estate, Lokogoma, one of the areas in Abuja.
What shocked many Nigerians over the incident perhaps was the discovery that cyber crime has assumed a new hi-tech dimension. The EFCC finally disclosed that some Items the anti-graft agency recovered from the suspects included laptops and phones. Charms and exotic cars such as two Lexus RX350 cars and a Toyota Highlander. The suspects Umuaka Times learnt would soon be charged to court.
