The councilor representing Ward 1 in Umuaka town of Njaba LGA, Hon Emma Izunwa, has instituted an essay competition among the pupils in the government owned primary schools in his ward. The primary schools in Umuaka where this competition will take place are Hilltop Primary School Uba, Premier School Achara, Central School Umuaka and Unity Primary School Obinwanne.

In a brief interview with Umuaka Times last week, Hon Izunwa disclosed that the competition has already begun for the first stage at Hilltop Primary School Uba.

This first stage will go round the whole schools in the ward and it will then enter the second stage. In the second stage, the best five essays from each school will be selected for the grand finale. Hon Izunwa informed Umuaka Times that the next school the program will hit in a couple of weeks from now will be Premier School Achara.

Narrating his experience to Umuaka Times since he started the program, Izunwa submitted that the program which had already been held in Hilltop Primary School for the first stage was not all that bad. He admitted that the program and the pupils had their shortcomings but he promised that the next time the program would be held, there would be improvements.

Asked who was the person funding the program, Izunwa said that he is the one funding the program from his little salary as a councilor. On the motive behind the establishment of the program, he told Umuaka Times that his motive is to improve the quality of primary school education in Umuaka. In conclusion, Hon Izunwa appealed to other men of goodwill and lovers of education to start some similar programs to bring back competitive education to the children.
