Eze Justin issues press statement on the murder of Onyeego.
3 min readThe royal father of Obinwanne Umuaka Autonomous Community, HRH Eze Justin Ezeala has reacted to the senseless killing of Mr Onyinyechi (Onyeego) Okebaram yesterday by people strongly suspected to be members of a Joint Task Force operating in Orlu Zone. Mr Okebaram, popularly addressed as Onyeego was a vibrant and youthful Obinwanne born easy going fellow, cut down at the prime of his life by the JTF who obviously came for an illegal operation in Umuaka.
Reacting to the senseless killing of Onyeago, the Obinwanne monarch in a press statement he issued at the late hours of yesterday began this way.
“My dear friends, today was a sad day for my people with the unjustified killing of an innocent, vibrant man in his father’s house. I have been engaged with the security chiefs in Imo State and we are determined to unmask the killers and bring justice to the bereaved family.”
Following the killing of Onyeego yesterday, several versions of what transpired between the JTF and the activities that led to the murder of the popular Obinwanne youth have emerged. Umuaka Times is relying on the version the royal father narrated in his press statement which explained that trouble started when the JTF raided a local hotel in the community. “While the killing was unprovoked, the perpetrators started their operation from raiding a local hotel in the community.”
Seriously pained by the killing of the innocent fellow, the monarch in his press statement made the following pronouncements.
“To forestall a reoccurrence, I have today ordered the closure of all places in my community where prostitutes and petty drug dealers have been reported to be operating from.”
It was alleged that the JTF visited a local brothel in the community and several boys who were present at the moment took to their heels on noticing the presence of the JTF.
The monarch continued:
“The Obinwanne Security outfit has been directed to arrest anyone, local or foreign, engaged in any of these activities. We have also commenced the enumeration of all non-indigenes, resident in our community and requiring their landlords to act as guarantors for their conduct.”
On other activities which may lead to breakdown of social order, His Royal Majesty notified the general public of the determination of his kingdom to close some Obinwanne roads at night and intensify security patrols.
In his closing remarks, he emphasized that “it is the determination of my people to ensure that the death of this young man is not in vain and something positive comes out of it for the community.
“I sincerely thank all the people who have called and sent prayers and messages of condolence and solidarity since the unfortunate event today. God bless all of you.”
Several Akalites who came across the press statement by the royal father have been commenting and commending him for his foresight.
For now, the killing of Onyeego has been officially lodged with the Nigerian Police for more investigations.
