Family and friends bury Chief Owowo amidst praises.
2 min readThe burial of the late Chief Gabriel Obieze Owowo has indeed come and gone but the activities that marked the burial are still being discussed in some certain quarters both i Nigeri and United States. The burial which was properly planned and executed had trouble-free activities from start to finish. Sympathizers began to arrive the compound of the late icon as early as 8 o’clock in the morning of Wednesday December 16, 2020 for the great farewell to a man who was known as a peace maker and life saver. Peak activities started when the body of the late Chief Owowo, arrived his family house in a motorcade in his village of Uba in Umuaka town Imo State.
Uba youths, family members, friends and well wishers who had gone to accompany the corpse home from the mortuary also arrived at the same time with the motorcade, making a loud, sensational and triumphant entry of the man into his abode.
The moment their arrival was announced by the Master of Ceremonies, Mr Jude Ngoka, the undertakers laid the remains of Chief Owowo in-state to pave way for the people to pay their last respect. After the children, family members, relations, and several organisations respectively paid their last respect to the remains of Chief Owowo, within 30 minutes, the corpse was taken to St Mary’s Church for the requiem Mass for the repose of the soul of the deceased.
During the Mass service, the officiating priest, who celebrated the Mass encouraged the people to always put God first in all their dealings and used the opportunity also to thank God for a life well spent by Chief Owowo. He asked people present to always be prepared for death as no one knows when, how and where he or she would be called by God.
At the end of the church service, the priest called upon Chief Emmanuel Owowo, the son of the deceased to give vote of thanks on behalf of the family. Chief Emma Owowo stood up from where he was sitting together with his family members and went to the alter where he addressed the congregation. Owowo thanked all that have been with the family since the death of his dad was announced. He asked God to always protect the people, the parish and the families left behind by the late Chief Gabriel Obieze Owowo. Few minutes later, the church service came to an end and all the people moved again to the family house of the Owowos in Uba for burial.
The burial was indeed conducted by the same Catholic Priest and some members of the parish council etc from St Mary’s Church Umuaka, bringing to an end, the life and times of a man who saved lives, made peace and contributed his quota in the development of his community.
