How lucky Amarachi Okpara survived a kidnap attempt.

3 min read

Miss Grace Amarachi Okwara went to hell and back from the hands of kidnappers which lasted close to one week. Sunday the 11th of October 2020 was a very bad day for her as kidnappers abducted the innocent girl from her home town Ibele in Njaba LGA of Imo State. Ibele town is a community in the former Umuaka town in the same Njaba LGA.

According to Amarachi, the kidnappers took her purely for money rituals. She told Umuaka Times that she lost consciousness the moment the kidnappers took her away, only to regain herself in a completely strange environment in a bush.

Yesterday being Saturday 16 October was a day of escape for her. She told Umuaka Times that she was not the only person kidnapped, but there were others too.  While narrating her ordeal to Umuaka Times, Amarachi said that from time to time some of the kidnappers do go outside and come back later, possibly to hunt for more victims.

So in the story of her dramatic and miraculous escape, she told the kidnapper who was watching over her and others that she wanted to use the “continence”.  Unknown to her, the kidnapper/security man had been having the thought of raping her. The man saw that as a golden opportunity to carry out his mission and decided to lead her to use the “convenience”. Instead of taking her to the “convenience”, he took her outside. With a cutlass in his hand, Amarachi was totally afraid over the mission of the man as she could not understand why the man took her outside to an unusual place.

As a man who wanted to rape a girl, he dropped his cutlass as he made efforts to grip the poor Amarachi. She immediately got hold of the cutlass and hit him with it. The moment she hit the man, she took off immediately.

The escape of Amarachi came as a shock to the kidnapper because it was what he least imagined. He never knew if to chase her and face the risk of other abductees escaping or go back quietly and pretend as if nothing happened. He decided to do the later.

According to Amarachi, she ran up to an hour before she could set her eyes on a human being. She confirmed to Umuaka Times that the incident took place in Ifekala town in Imo State. It was from there she was able to get across to the Nwaorieubi Police Station where calls were made to her people that she had been found. Immediately her people went to th police station and took her  home.

While expressing her happiness, Amarachi advised other teenagers of her age to always be security conscious and also urged parents and other visitors who had come to celebrate with the family over the successful escape of their daughter from the lion’s den, the need to give security tips to their children.

By the time Umuaka Times called the family, there was a big number of visitors who have come to see the girl and ask her some questions.
