2 min read

Mr. Josephat Ojikeya, a Diasporan  Akalite has declared to Umuaka Times that he is the only Akalite based in the Leeward Islands in the Caribbean Sea known as Saint Martin. While holding talks with the Umuaka Times correspondent in St Martin about the insecurity in Umuaka, Ojikeya who is also a messenger of God told Umuaka Times that he had lived in St Martin Island for over ten years as the only Akalite in the beautiful island. While discussing this with Umuaka Times, Ojikeya went ahead and confirmed to Umuaka Times that the St Martin Island which is made up of two separate countries, northern French side, spelt Saint-Martin, and the southern Dutch side, spelt St Maarten is a small island which has less than 5 Igbo residents. He used the opportunity to appeal to Akalites and their friends who want to embark on tours to visit St Martin because the island is a haven for tourists. To confirm this, Umuaka Times observed that, “the island is home to busy resort beaches and secluded coves. It’s also known for fusion cuisine, vibrant nightlife and duty-free shops selling jewelry and liquor.”

St Lucia, another country in the island is the nearest country where you can find another Akalite. Ojikeya later told Umuaka Times that he feels “lonely” in the island which covers “land area of 95 km2 (37 sq mi), 53 km2 (20 sq mi) which is under the sovereignty of the French Republic, and 42 km2 (16 sq mi) under the sovereignty of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.” Through him, the Umuaka Times correspondent who visited the area discovered that the island is in dare need of Akalites to visit the island and explore business opportunities.

A search conducted by Umuaka Times about the island confirms that “the main cities are Philipsburg on the Dutch side and Marigot on the French side. The Dutch side is more heavily populated. The largest settlement on the entire island is Lower Prince’s Quarter, which is on the Dutch side.

The highest hilltop is the Pic Paradise (424 metres (1,391 ft)) in the centre of a hill chain on the French side. Both sides are hilly with large mountain peaks. This forms a valley where many houses are located. There are no rivers on the island, but there are many dry gullies. Hiking trails give access to the dry forest that covers tops and slopes.

The island is located south of Anguilla and is separated from that British overseas territory by the Anguilla Channel. Saint Martin is northwest of Saint Barthélemy and is separated from that French overseas collectivity by the Saint-Barthélemy Channel.”
