Lagos based businessman, philanthropist and top community leader in Amakor Autonomous Community, Deacon Vernatius Chiwueze Obi popularly known as Agu-Ojo or Agu-White has appealed to the royal fathers and presidents-general in all the autonomous communities in Umuaka to go back to the basics and form youth associations based on morals and the core values Umuaka Municipal Council is known for. Deacon Chiwueze Obi who is with the Communion Deliverance Ministry CDM, disclosed this while having an interview with Umuaka Times in Lagos last week. According to him, the rascal, immoral and criminal behaviour of the youths of today across Igboland and Umuaka in particular is giving him serious sleepless nights. He attributed the ugly development to the loss of moral grip and values in Umuaka Municipal Council. “We had a strong grip of our youths from the 80s backwards through our various youth organizations”.

Umuaka Times after hearing his opinion concerning the Umuaka youths of the present day Nigeria, challenged him to drive home his point by citing some examaples. Agu-White cleared his voice and spoke unequivocally: “I remember when I was the president of our own youth association in Amakor during our time, we put some rules and laws in place so as to guide our boys and girls. During that era, we made it a serious offence for any boy especially students to smoke, fight or steal. We also put some checks on our girls and made it illegal for them to be pregnant or commit abortion out of wedlock. Those who violated these rules were severely dealt with. This to a very large extent helped build our youths then and engaged them in several economic activities in town.”

Agu-White seriously lamented that the social checks and balances of the 80s are no longer available in today’s world and the unavailability of these rules has given a serious rise to stealing, smoking, drug and disrespect to elders. He advised the youths to get themselves engaged on several income generating activities and desist from the intake of marijuana, mkpuru mmiri and other harmful substances.

On his love for charity, Agu-White disclosed to Umuaka Times how he deeply hates poverty. “I hate to see people suffer especially those who are helpless. All the charity works I do, I do not do them to seek political office or outshine others. I do them because I so much hate poverty and love to see people especially the less-privileged feel happy”.

Still on his activities, Deacon Agu-White expressed deep surprise that Umuaka Times was able to notice his activities in Amakor towards the development of the community.

On the right path to positive developments and human capacity building, he urged all the communities in Umuaka Municipal Council to start from the basics and form youth organizations.”Not just a mere youth organization but an organization that will return our boys and girls to normal lifestyles we are all know with”.

As 2023 decision year is fast approaching, Umuaka Times inquired from Deacon Agu-Whilte to know his political views. He thanked the newspaper for raising up the political question. He appealed to Umuaka Times to use its media prowess and wide coverage to properly educate the people on the need for them to obtain their permanent voters cards and cast their votes for the next Nigerian president of Igbo extraction.

On his final note, Agu-White appealed to all sons and daughters of Umuaka Municipal Council to be hardworking and prayerful for God’s blessings to reach the community. He enjoined the royal fathers in Umuaka and their presidents- general to form a synergy and work as one.
