Igbo freedom: A new organization arrives.

A new pan Igbo socio-cultural society and think-tank has been formed to fight for the freedom and socio-economic and political emancipation of the Igbo race. In a message which was sent to Umuaka Times by a well known Nigerian social critic of Igbo extraction, media personality and a commentator on national issues, Chinedu Vincent Akuta from his base in the United kingdom, it was disclosed that the name of the new body is known as Igbo Awareness Movement IAM.

A message from the Facebook page of the new Igbo body states thus. “We are Igbo activists gathering a team of Igbo Professionals and other well meaning Igbos to form a formidable intellectual think tank for Ndi Igbo.”

 

Umuaka Times also gathered that the purpose of establishing the body is to “re-awaken Igbo consciousness, reposition Ndi Igbo in the scheme of things. We intend to raise a new form of leadership for Ndi Igbo and work for SENSIBLE Igbo republicanism.”

OBJECTIVES: I. To pursue fairness, equality and justice for Ndigbo both in Igboland and the wider Nigerian polity.

  1. To promote the welfare of members and facilitate initiatives to help the less privileged in our communities
  2. To promote economic empowerment and capacity building initiatives for members and Ndigbo in general, locally and internationally, by creating awareness of opportunities in the areas of education, health, business, sports, culture, science and technology, etc.
  3. To assist in the provision and development of infrastructure in Igboland
  4. To promote and support communities’ led development initiatives and projects, and foster co-operations amongst Ndigbo via shared common interests in all Igbo communities.
  5. To encourage inward investments, think home initiatives and development of Ala Igbo.

  1. To promote and encourage interest in education, thirst for knowledge, innovations, acquisition of science and technology skills and talents amongst our youths.
  2. To seek for planned maximum industrialized Igbo nation in a manner that will safeguard our natural habitat and ecosystem.
  3. To promote social justice, fair play and equality amongst all segments of our society.
  4. To fight against discrimination on the basis of sex/gender, place of origin, religion, etc.
  5. To promote sensible Igbo republicanism and an egalitarian Igbo society.
  6. Cooperate with other Igbo groups in seeking consensus on key Igbo issues.
  7. To promote initiatives for the establishment of world class Science and Technology centers as well as research centers across Igboland.
  8. To encourage our youths in academic pursuits through scholarship awards to those with special talents.
  9. To promote good leadership and campaign against bad leadership for Ndigbo at home and the wider Nigerian polity.
  10. To discourage any form of marginalization against Ndigbo anywhere in the world.
  11. To discover, promote and champion Igbo

cultural heritages

  1. Seek cooperation with relevant agencies, home and abroad, on how to combat erosion menace and potential landslide threatening the whole Igboland.

For now, the members of this organization which promises to be powerful have not been properly disclosed to the public.
