From the findings Umuaka Times gathered from some news media outlets on the internet, the Lead Pastor of Gateway International Church Port Harcourt, Pastor George Izunwa has encouraged men of God in the country and their followers to begin fitness exercises to suppress many ailments associated with physical docility and unhealthy way of living. The pastor who was a couple of months ago, spotted at the Bumblebee Fitness Center Port Harcourt was seen with his coach who took him on boxing training. The man of God decided to choose boxing as his choice because of how boxing really strengthens the body and soul.

For a very busy Pastor George to find time to visit the gym is a good way of showing an act worthy of emulation by Christians and other Nigerians in demonstrating how beneficial the act of fitness keeping is to the body. Sporting and fitness activities were also reported in some Bible passages in order to encourage Christians to follow the path.

“Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth?”
Galatians 5:7

“An athlete is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules.”
2 Timothy 2:5 ESV

“Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable.”
1 Corinthians 9:25 ESV

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us”
Hebrews 12:1 ESV

“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it.”
1 Corinthians 9:24 ESV.

It has been recorded that exercising the body is capable of prolonging one’s lifespan for more than 5 years.
