The Umuduruorji Acharaji Akah community in Njaba LGA Imo State on Sunday January 8, 2023, witnessed an unusual event which attracted the presence of many, both from Nigeria and beyond. The event was the celebration of 50 years of unbroken marriage between Nnaoma Di Ebube, Chief Ignatius Iwunna Chikezie and his wife, Lolo Ezinne Juliana Chikezie. The 94 year old Chief Ignatius Chikezie on the happy day, came back to life fully with his wife as they were dressed in the wedding attire they both used 50 years ago.

As the black American SUV that was decorated to match the taste of the event pulled in front of St Mary’s Church by 9 am, the “new” couple alighted from the vehicle and every attention thereafter was focused on them. Cameramen and well wishers went to the couple to congratulate them and take pictures of them. Shortly after that, the Mass service began.

The officiating priest who was himself full of joy and happiness gave the “new” couple a prime time before the church came to an end. He first of all, told the congregation why the new couple was in church and called them out for more blessings. Immediately the call was made, the couple came out and the congregation erupted in a loud ovation and clapping of hands. The priest “wedded” them again for the second time in 50 years and everybody in church prayed for them and wished them a new happy married life.

At the end of the Mass, everybody was outside including Mr and Mrs Nnaoma Di Ebube, Chief Ignatius Iwunna Chikezie and his wife, Lolo Ezinne Juliana Chikezie. Many more people again came to the couple, wished them well and took pictures with them. Shortly after that, the heat shifted to Umuduruorji Acharaji where a classic reception and entertainment of guests were organized in honour of the couple.

Umuaka Times as the official newspaper of the event congratulated the couple and wished them a more fruitful married life.
