Imo Assembly urged to impeach Uzodimma.
2 min readA Southeastern Nigeria based advocacy group known as the Coalition for True Governance CTG, has appealed to the Imo State House of Assembly to immediately begin impeachment proceedings to ensure the removal of the state governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma over the high spate of insecurity, killings and other forms of social organizations in the state.
This call was contained in a press statement released on Tuesday 9 May 2023 by the convener of the advocacy group Mr Charles Odenigbo. From the press statement, the advocacy group also appealed to the security organizations in the country to pay adequate attention over the happenings in the state, especially insecurity and the industrial action by Imo workers.
According to the group and from the report of Daily Trust newspaper, the organization alleged that the inaction of the governor has heightened fear in the state among its inhabitants.
Mr Charles Odenigbo sadly noted that innocent lives have been lost in the state due to insecurity. “Just a few weeks back, five policemen and a couple were gruesomely killed in Ngor-Okpala area of the state. This is disheartening.”
The Charles Odenigbo led advocacy group seriously lamented that Imo State has always been in the news for tragic incidents in the recent time. Violent crimes such as murder and kidnapping were fingered out as the new order of the day in the state by the group.
The workers strike in the state was another reason the organization cited for the call for the impeachment of Senator Uzodimma. In its final message, the coalition accused Uzodimma of “failing to take proper steps to address the concerns of workers, and failing to engage in meaningful dialogue. “The lawmakers in the state are there for a reason; to serve the people. If the Governor continues failing in his duties, the option of impeachment should be considered.”
