“Let’s step out of the field.” Gloria Akano calls upon Umuaka women as she receives Umuaka Times Award.

Famous Lagos lawyer, social worker and grassroots community development advocate and stakeholder, Barrister Gloria Akano on Monday 18 September 2023, formally received her award from Umuaka Times as the Outstanding Female Lawyer of the Year 2022. The award which was presented to the lawyer in her law office known as Akagloville Attorneys located in the heart of highbrow Lekki Phase One Estate in Lagos, came to the Lagos lawyer as a surprise and she welcomed it with a deep surprise.
Although Barrister Akano is not a new person to receiving awards; the Umuaka Times reporters who went to her office discovered that she has in the past received Surulere Lawyers’ Forum Award of Excellence in recognition of her commitment to the development of justice system in Nigeria, in the year 2019.
Another award came in 2022 when the Nigeria Bar Association presented her with an award over her dedication to the Lagos Branch of Nigeria Bar Association. In spite of all the professional awards she has received so far, Barrister Akano was so much elated to receive the Umuaka Times Award because it is an honour from her home town Umuaka.
While making her acceptance speech during the presentation, she first dedicated the award to the Almighty God for finding her worthy as a social worker. Besides the first dedication, she specially dedicatedthe award to all the mothers in Umuaka and beyond. She called upon all the women in Umuaka to step out to the field and make a difference especially in the areas of the girl child education and protection. She expressed her deep appreciation of the resilience of Umuaka women and urged them to continue to break new grounds in their chosen professions, occupations and in the running of the home fronts.
Barrister Akano who is the only woman among Umuaka Times Merit Award winners 2022 edition, also urged the women in Umuaka to continue to work in synergy with the menfolk and other women organizations in order to achieve positive results.
