Meet the 3 famous female footballers from Umuaka.

Akalites, especially young ones have in no small ways captured and dominated their chosen environments. In this special report, Umuaka Times will focus on three young female Akalites who are ruling their worlds in the global golden era of female footballism. Umuaka Times correspondents in America supplied their reports on Courtney Dike while Umuaka Times correspondents in Germany provided the facts for the story on Carla Jenete Okoro. Courtney Ozioma Dike is a high profile football star who was born on February 3, 1995 in Edmond, Oklahoma United States of America. Dike has represented both America and Nigeria during football engagements. The forwarder attended Edmond North High School and Oklahoma State University where she played female football to the admiration of the world. Some reports Umuaka Times gathered from official football websites disclosed that during her years at Edmond North High School, the football prodigy scored close to 100 goals.

Courtney Ozioma Dike.

Courtney Ozioma Dike read accountancy at Oklahoma State University. As far back as 2014, Dike was among the female football team that represented Nigeria during the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. The tournament took place in Canada. Dike set a world record in Canada where she scored the fastest goal from the historical evidence of the tournament. The goal was scored in just 13 seconds during an encounter with North Korea. Dike is perhaps best known as the only footballer in Nigeria who has turned down football bonus. She rejected the sum of $7,000 given to her to support her career by the Federal Government of Nigeria. Courtney Ozioma Dike is from Uba Umuaka.

Chiamaka Cristabel Okwuchukwu.

The best way to describe the success of Chiamaka is simply to call her a child of destiny; a friendly match between Girls Secondary Technical School Umuaka and Sancta Maria Secondary School both in Umuaka brought the football wizkid to the limelight. Emmanuel Eburuaja, a Catholic priest and an unrepentant football freak organized the friendly match when he was the principal of Sancta Maria Secondary School. In an exclusive interview with Umuaka Times a couple of years ago, Fr. Eburuaja confirmed that Girls Technical School lost the game but there was a “terror footballer”among the team and the terror was Chiamaka Cristabel Okwuchukwu.

After the match, the priest called the “terror footballer” for a meeting and the rest became history. A scholarship was provided for her and she joined Sancta Maria Secondary School and the female football team also. Chiamaka who was born on August 7, 2005 is currently playing for Rivers Angels Squad. She has represented Nigeria in many tournaments including the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup 2022. She has played in at least two junior world cup tournaments.

In December 2022, Chiamaka won the prestigious Umuaka Times Merit Award as the Female Footballer of the Year. Till date, she remains the youngest Akalite to have won Umuaka Times Merit Award. Chiamaka Cristabel Okwuchukwu is from Ugbele Akah Autonomous Community.

Carla Jenete Okoro.

Born of a German mother and a Nigerian father of Igbo extraction, 15 year old Carla Jenete Okoro is a footballer who plays the game with all her heart and dedication anytime she is called upon. German correspondents of Umuaka Times disclosed recently that Jenete started to play football at the age of 5 with a club known as “Berliner TSC” in faraway Germany. She stayed with the club until she turned 12 and moved to all boys’ football club. Another German club known as “Blau Weiß Berolina mitte, was her next port of call.

Today, Carla Jenete Okoro plays for the Berlin Under 19 state FC and she has been invited to join the junior national junior female FC. Carla Jenete Okoro is a native of Umuele Amazano Autonomous Community.

Umuaka Times gathered that there are also many other female footballers from Umuaka within some young ages across the globe. These girls are already ruling the world.
