Merit College of Nursing holds maiden matriculation.

The Merit College of Nursing Sciences, a health institution that meets up to international standards has marked its maiden matriculation program. The event which was held at the large premises of the school located in Umuowa Imo State attracted several personalities both from the public and private sectors. By 9 o’clock in the morning of 19 April 2023, parents of the students, their friends and well washers as well as invited guests had started to arrive at the school for the big event. By 10 o’clock, the canopies set for the big event had been filled up and the program was set to begin.

The event kick stared with a high Mass celebrated by His Lordship, the Catholic Bishop of Orlu Diocese, Rev Dr Augustine Ukwuoma. Bishop Ukwuoma who did not waste time during the church service, left the venue of the event immediately the Mass came to an end for another important engagement the man of God did not disclose the venue to the congregation. The event then took another form as the program for the matriculation of 135 students gathered momentum.


A onetime commissioner in Imo State and a public affairs analyst, Chief Louis Duru was announced as the Master of Ceremonies of the day. Soon he took the microphone and the event began fully.

The students of the school in their academic gowns marched in a procession to the arena properly reserved for them and shortly after that, a welcome song by the students was taken. This was followed by the school’s anthem. At the end of the two songs, the guests stood up from their seats and clapped for them over their wonderful performance.

The next item was the introduction of the members of high table and the opening prayers. Kola nuts were presented and blessed after the opening prayers by the royal father of the community, HRH Eze M.C. Duruigbo of Umuowa Autonomous Community. He did not only bless the kola nuts but he also prayed for the sustainability of the school by the founders and others.

The chairman’s opening remarks were then taken and in his remarks, he congratulated the school and the students and reminded them why they were there at the institute.

The provost of the institution, Lolo Angela Ikeme presented her address which was followed by a motivational speech presented by one of the female students. After that came the awards of certificate of merit which was followed by capping of the student nurses.

The last segment of the event was the fund raising and appreciation by guests. Vot of thanks by the royal father and responses by some other guests followed as the event drew to its conclusion.

The maiden matriculation of Merit College of Nursing was a huge success from the findings of Umuaka Times. Many people attended the event from within and outside Nigeria. They used the opportunity to take a tour of the great college and their findings were absolutely amazing.
