NUPI: Umuaka Times, Iwuaku initiate peace and reconciliation committee.
3 min readThe conflicts in the New Umuaka Project Initiative NUPI which has led to the group splitting into two factions may soon be a thing of the past as efforts are on top gear to bring back the body as one by some prominent Akalites. For over a year now, the Dr Austin Agbahiwe led NUPI has been battling several accusations from the split faction. This battle by extension has marred the wheel of progress and efficiency which the group was known for since its inception. The accusations and verbal attacks however grew to a dangerous climax and eventually landed the two factions in the court of law to seek legal redress.
As it is known that nobody benefits from troubles and conflicts, an intervention “force” has been formed to create the needed soft landing to the warring factions of NUPI, which is the apex socio-cultural group in Umuaka Municipal Council. Mazi Iwuaku Iwuchukwu, a top community leader, philanthropist and an Angolan based businessman, in the company of others, has decided to reunite the warring factions of the group for the benefit of the entire Umuaka Municipal Council UMC.
According to a brief press statement from Mazi Iwuaku which he sent to Umuaka Times last week, he and his group, have been able to assemble men and women of integrity in Umuaka to settle the rift between the two NUPI factions. This group handling the issue is known as Umuaka Peace and Reconciliation Committee UPRC. Despite the settling the NUPI crisis, the peace committee will also look into the insecurity in Umuaka and other crisis affecting the famous Umuaka Municipal Council.
The members of the UPRC body were carefully selected from all the 10 communities in Umuaka Municipal Council. In a list made available to Umuaka Times from Mazi Iwuaku last week, the members of the group are Chief Okey Nwanyanwu from Achara who will take the position of the chairman, while Chief C.C Orisakwe from Isiozi will be the secretary of the body. Engineer Bob Dike from Uba. Professor I.O Mbachu from Isiozi, Chief Chris Akuzuruahu (Ezemm uo) from Ugbele, Chief Ikenna Duru (Akunepuome) from Umuele and Chief Charles Osu from Ibele. Others are Chief Kenneth Egolu (Ogbuhuro Uzo) from Amiyi, Chief Basil Ebekonye from Obeakpu, Chief Okems Okemezie from Amakor and Chief Kenneth Obioha from Obinwanne.
Barrister Chinwe Lesley Agams is also in the group and she will be representing Women’s Crisis Centre while Darlington Ojy Onwukwe, represents Umuaka Times and reports the events to the world. Indications last week that as time progresses, there may be a need to fine-tune the list.
Those to be invited to the group are the two NUPI factions and some selected royal fathers. The NUPI factions have been mapped as Group A and Group B. The NUPI Group A is made up of Dr Austin Agbahiwe, Barrister Jude Ezeala and Barrister Oguamanam while Group B is made up of Chief TJ Ehirim, Chief Leo Offorji and Mr Alozie from Umuele.
The royal fathers who are also involved in the peace and reconciliation process are HRH Eze Caesar Duruegbusuo and Eze Justin Ezeala.
From what Umuaka Times gathered, the group will move into action soon and a whatsapp group will be created for the group within the week for a smooth takeoff.
