Onwa Foundation Oghu dance showcases best dancers.
2 min readAmbassador Nwuke R. Fidelis, the Onwa Foundation founder and Executive Director, an illustrious son of Amakor Autonomous Community of Njaba LGA has contributed a lot in Imo State, Nigeria and in other parts of the world through his foundation. On Thursday last week being 21 July 2022, the Onwa Foundation organized an oghu cultural dance which was held in the ancestral community of the boss of Onwa Foundation in Amakor, one of the towns that makes up Umuaka Municipal Council.
The event suffered some setbacks initially due to the news that a woman in the community, Mrs Nwati Amadike had died hours before the event kicked off. This sad development made the oghu dance to start very late at about 15 minutes to 5 pm. Despite the late start, the Oghu Odinala Onwa Foundation was able to pull crowd across several communities in Umuaka Municipal Council. First, the dancers were drown from all the 10 communities in Umuaka but only few were able to make it. Some had come on time but felt that the event was no longer holding as a result of the death of Mrs Amadike. The dancers who remained came from Ibele, Ibeakpu, Amakor and Umuele.
The dancers who were 9 in number thrilled the spectators to their greatest amazement. The main attraction of the dance was the dramatic appearance of a 4 year old dancer who stole the show anytime it was his turn to dance. Spectators hailed him and freely spread money to him anytime he danced.
On the side attraction, there was a big number of masquerades chasing girls from one corner to another. Even some masquerades were seen taking selfies of themselves with their android phones. It was on this eventful occasion that Umuaka Times was able to establish that spirits who come in form of masquerades also use telephone services like humans.
From those who spoke to Umuaka Times, despite the death of Mrs Amadike, the Amakor community expressed deep happiness that their son who lives far away in Germany remembered to host the oghu event for them through his foundation. They prayed to God to continue to protect and bless Chief Onwa.
