Path to our electoral victory by Livi Madu.

2 min read

An American based community leader from Umuele Amazano Autonomous Community, Chief Livinus Madu has outlined what he described as the panacea to the electoral failures in the community concerning Umuaka Ebe Iri born politicians who have at one time or another vied for elective offices.  Chief Madu who traced how several Akalites have all failed to climb to the top of their respective political ladders over the years outlined two major factors as being responsible for the political failures  Umuaka politicians have suffered.

In a long telephone conversation with the publisher of Umuaka Times, Chief Madu lamented that Akalites will continue to witness political failures until they learn to field only one consensus candidate in any election they stand for.

Chief Madu sadly observed that at many times, Akalites have fielded two or even more candidates contesting for one electoral position while their opponents presented just one candidate.”Without being told, you already know what the result will be as votes from Umuaka have already been divided,” he told Umuaka Times.

Chief Madu cited the most recent example of his concern where two illustrious sons of the community came out and vied for the membership of Imo State House of Assembly and both of them failed eventually. This development according to Chief Madu must be jettisoned for the community to start recording electoral victories.

Another issue of concern the Umuele born Chief raised was the inability of Akalite politicians to build the grassroots political structures that will ensure victory for them. “You can’t win an election from outside. You cannot be an occasional visitor who lives abroad and you hope to defeat those at home in an election.” On this note, he advocated that those vying for electoral positions in the state must start from the grassroots and become a good friend of the people and move on from there. He described grassroots understanding and mobilization as key to electoral success. Chief Madu finally appealed to the electorates in Umuaka to support any candidate who has grassroots mechanism that will ensure electoral success.
