St Mary’s Catholic Church Umuaka approves dress-code for members.
2 min readSt Mary’s Catholic Church Umuaka has restricted her members from wearing provocative attires that expose some sensitive parts of their bodies while attending church services or any other event in the church premises. The decision to put a ban on this practice which Umuaka Times has observed is gaining acceptance in many other churches across the country, was made to curtail the immoral social behaviour of many Catholics who assume that such attires are allowed in the house of God.
When the reporter from Umuaka Times visited the church last week, he saw a big banner placed on the wall to the main gate of the church warning and directing worshippers on what to wear and what not to wear to church. The approved attires on the banner had the good sign while those not allowed were marked “X” indicating that the church does not allow such because they go against the values of Christianity.
One of the security men at the gate to the church who spoke with Umuaka Times on the condition of anonymity disclosed that church members are very happy about the development. In his views, the directive came very late because “the devil is about to deceive the children of God that wearing of transparent attires to Church is a work of the devil. How I wish this warning started in the 80s”.
The dress code has been made available to many Catholic and other churches too. Some Christians have wondered why Muslims dress to cover their bodies very properly and Christians just do the opposite. Umuaka Times gathered that the posters prohibiting such inappropriate dressings by Christians are placed where everyone can see and read. Some of the banners did not stipulate any punishment or deprivation that will befall defaulters.
