UCH signpost: Eze Caesar calls for calm.
2 min readThe chairman of Njaba Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Caesar Duruegbusuo has called on all Akalites to remain calm over the development that emerged last week concerning the ownership of Umuaka Community Hospital. Last week, the whatsapp group of Umuaka Times known as Umuaka Times Institute carried a breaking news that the signpost of the Umuaka Community Hospital has been changed to Amiyi-Akah Community Hospital. This sparked off a serious debate and condemnation of the action by the “students” of the Institute. Many people contributed in the discussion including Eze Duruegbusuo himself who informed the “students” that the traditional rulers in Umuaka Ebe Iri were meeting in his palace and deliberating over the issue on the same day and time.
A couple of days ago, Umuaka Times contacted HRH Eze Duruegbusuo popularly known as Eze Caesar to take record of the resolve of the royal fathers from the summit held in his palace, he informed Umuaka Times that he indeed called the emergency meeting of all the royal fathers in Umuaka town over the status of the hospital. Umuaka Times gathered that it was only Eze Barrister Justin Ezeala and Eze Barrister Victor Ijeoma who were not in town that did not attend the meeting.
According to Eze Duruegbusuo, they royal fathers made it clear and known to each eze that Umuaka Community Hospital belongs to all the ten villages in the old Umuaka setting. “It was what our parents came together and built.”
Eze Caesar who was visibly angry from the tune of his voice told Umuaka Times that the royal fathers unanimously condemned the action by Amiyi-Akah. The royal fathers jointly issued a communique to the Amiyi-Akah Royal Father, HRH, Eze Francis Ahanotu to pass to his people, the resolve of the royal fathers.
“We all know that Imo State University Teaching Hospital is in Umuna Orlu, does it belong to Umuna people alone? The Federal Medical Centre is in Amakohia, does it belong to Amakohia people? That is how it is to Umuaka Community Hospital. It does not belong to one village alone.”
In their final decision, the royal fathers resolved that the new name for the former Umuaka Community Hospital is now Aka Ebe Iri Community Hospital AECH. Eze Caesar appealed to all Akalites in and outside Nigeria to remain calm as the situation has been put under control.
