Unity Primary School Obinwanne holds colourful inter-house sports festival.

Obinwanne, Imo State: The 2026 Inter-House Sports competition of Unity Primary School, Obinwanne, Umuaka Autonomous Community, has come and gone, leaving behind fond memories of excitement, sportsmanship, and community unity. The colourful event was held on Friday, June 19, 2026, at the school playground and it attracted a large gathering of pupils, parents, community leaders, traditional chieftaincy title holders, and distinguished guests.

Scheduled to commence at noon, the program unfolded in grand style and lived up to expectations.
Among the dignitaries expected at the event were the Royal Father of the Day, His Royal Majesty Eze Justin Uzoma Ezeala, the royal father of Obinwanne Community who was represented by Chief Celestine Agu (Ekwembiriba Umuaka) and the Traditional Prime Minister of the community. The Special Guest of Honour for the event was Chief Vitalis Ugochukwu Obi, Executive Chairman of Njaba Local Government Area; and the distinguished Chairman of the occasion, Chief Julius Ukasoanya, the Mmirioma I of Obinwanne.
The ceremony commenced with the arrival of Chief Julius Ukasoanya, whose presence set the tone for the day’s activities. Opening prayers were offered by Sir Julius Igboeche, after which the presentation of kola nuts was performed by Chief Festus Nnadi (Omeudo), the Chief Security Officer of Obinwanne Umuaka Autonomous Community.
The chairman then delivered his opening remarks, while Chief Celestine Agu, who represented His Royal Majesty, was warmly welcomed. The President-General of the community, Engineer Modestus Obioha also presented a goodwill address that highlighted the importance of education, sports, and youth development in the community.
The atmosphere became even more vibrant with a beautifully rendered welcome song by the pupils, a performance that drew applause from the audience and set the stage for an unforgettable day.
Further arrivals included Chief Emeka Nwariwe and his entourage, as well as Chief Alex Agwubuo, who represented Chief Pedro Odoemenam. They were subsequently ushered to the high table amidst cheers from spectators.

The Headmistress of Unity Primary School, Lolo Chizoba Patience Nwagbara, delivered her welcome address, expressing gratitude to the community, sponsors, parents, and guests for their continued support of the school.She also highlighted the challenges the school is witnessing. Shortly afterwards, another notable guest, Chief Kenneth Nnamuka also known as Tinubu was welcomed to the event.
One of the major highlights of the day was the colourful march-past by the six competing houses. The participating houses were White House (Ezeala Royal Family), Yellow House (Chief Arthur Chike Ukeoma), Red House (High Chief Chima Choice Nwadike), Purple House (Chief Emeka Nwariwe), Green House (Don Godwin C. Eziama), and Blue House (Chief Pedro Odoemenam).
The excitement intensified when the cultural dance segment commenced. Each house presented its own dance troupe, captivating spectators with energetic displays, creativity, and cultural elegance. House patrons, owners, and their friends generously rewarded the performers with cash gifts, making the dance competition one of the most entertaining and memorable segments of the event.

The community was indeed thrilled by the activities of the school, from the melodious welcome song to the spectacular field and track events. The enthusiasm of pupils, the colourful displays by the houses, and the overwhelming support from parents and community leaders created an atmosphere of celebration and unity throughout the day. As God would have it, there was no single drop of rain!
Athletes from the six houses later took centre stage during the field and track competitions, displaying remarkable talent, determination, and sportsmanship. The competitions were keenly contested, with participants giving their best in various events.
Following the sporting activities, guests and participants were treated to refreshments. Thereafter, the chairman of the occasion delivered an appreciation address and further demonstrated his commitment to education and youth development by donating a substantial amount of money in support of the school.
At the end of the competition, Blue House, named after Chief Pedro Odoemenam (Ishiehi), emerged as the winner of the march-past competition. However, the coveted overall championship trophy for the 2026 Inter-House Sports competition was won by Green House, named after Don Godwin C. Eziama, whose athletes excelled across the various events.
The successful hosting of the 2026 Inter-House Sports Festival once again underscored the commitment of Unity Primary School, Obinwanne, to the holistic development of its pupils through academics, sports, culture, and community engagement.
As the curtain fell on the event, participants and guests departed with smiles, already looking forward to an even bigger and more exciting edition next year. At this juncture, the Green House members and their supporters were seen by Umuaka Times reporters singing and dancing with their trophy. What a day to remember.
