“Welcome to Umuaka” signpost allegedly removed by Orodo people.

1 min read

Sometime last December, Umuaka Times publisher did a video recording concerning the removal of the Welcome to Umuaka signpost mounted between the boundaries of Orodo and Umuaka. In the video, the publisher suspected that the iron signpost may have been stolen by some scavengers but recent developments confirmed otherwise.

According to an Orodo bus driver who shuttles between Umuaka and Owerri, the signpost was removed by Orodo indigenes over boundary disputes. The signpost, the driver disclosed, was mounted at the wrong corner of the boundary, meaning that it was mounted on Orodo land which was not the real boundary between the two towns.

In a brief interview with Achara PG, Chief Ukagim, expressed surprise over the new developments and called for a peaceful settlement of the issue. “If actually it was Orodo people that removed the signpost, we would be happy to meet with them and take the right decision and settle the matter,” he told Umuaka Times last week.

For now, it is left for the stakeholders in Umuaka community to make the first diplomatic move and reach out to Orodo and settle the issue.
