2 min read

Commuters, drivers and other road users who ply the Orlu Owerri Road in Imo State, an oil producing state, may be doing that at their own peril especially in this rainy season. The reason for this is because sooner or later, long vehicles carrying containers may be falling along the road and nobody knows who may be the victim anytime such a tragic incident occurs. Umuaka Times identified some seriously dangerous spots on the road which include the Njaba River axis of the road, the frontal potion of the Urban Trade House and the frontal portion of Njaba Police Station. There are also other areas and bad spots of the road in the Orodo side of the road, Nwaorieubi side. Umuaka Times identified over 35  bad spots of the road starting from Njaba River to Owerri.

A couple of weeks ago, the Imo State Government announced that the state government had signed an MOU with the famous German road construction giant, Julius Berger to fix the road. After the announcement from the state government, which was received by the people with mixed feelings, critics of the government were heard complaining in some certain quarters in and outside the state that signing an MOU is different from awarding a contract. From their own understanding of the whole scenario, nobody knows when the contract for the road construction would be awarded especially now that the rains are back with full force.

Some road users who saw when Umuaka Times team was taking some photographs of the road, pleaded with the newspaper to appeal to the government to help them because the deplorable condition of the road will certainly affect and damage the engine parts of their vehicles.
