2027: Brainbox embarks on international political tour, as he seeks diaspora support for Njaba assembly bid.

Hon. Victor Obinna Orgazi, popularly known as Brainbox, has embarked on an international political tour as part of efforts to mobilize support for his bid to represent Njaba Local Government Area in the Imo State House of Assembly in the 2027 elections. Orgazi, the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the Njaba State Constituency, is currently in the United States, where he has been meeting with Akalites and other political stakeholders as he seeks to build support for his candidacy ahead of the election. Umuaka Times had earlier reported Orgazi’s call for public debates among candidates contesting elective positions across Orlu Senatorial Zone, including the Njaba State Assembly seat.

Speaking with Umuaka Times from the United States, Orgazi described the reception, meetings and expressions of support he had received so far as “highly amazing.” According to him, the tour has provided an opportunity to interact directly with Akalites in the diaspora, explain his political agenda and listen to their views concerning the development of Njaba Local Government Area. One of his major stops so far has been Houston and Dallas, Texas, where he met with some leaders of Umuaka community in the United States. Among those he met was the President of Akah National Union in Dallas, High Chief Charles Osuh, his vice Dr Sanctus Orgazi, Dr Emeka Odueze, Dr Emeka Nwokedi, Chief Eddy Nnaji, Chief Justus Osuoha, Chief Ifeanyi Nwokedi, Mr Chinonso Ibekwe, Prince Vita Ojinnaka, Mr Chibuzo Obilor, Mr Kelechi Odueze, Mr Tobenna Iwuala, Mr Chinedu Igwebuike, Mr Ugonna Orgazi, Tobechi and Bekonma Iheme, as well as Mr. Onyiriegbe Obinna-Duruji Jr.

Umuaka Times gathered that the meetings attracted a considerable number of Akalites and other supporters, with participants expressing their views and support for Orgazi through various channels. The international tour is expected to continue in the coming days, with Orgazi scheduled to visit New Jersey and Maryland next week, followed by engagements in New York, Pennsylvania and other locations. Umuaka Times also gathered that Akalites in the United Kingdom, France, Portugal and South Africa, among other countries, are expecting to receive the Njaba assembly candidate as his international consultations continue.

Orgazi’s political consultations comes against the background of his previous attempts to secure the Njaba State Assembly seat. In the 2019 election, he contested under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and recorded 3,181 votes, according to INEC’s published results. He finished behind the eventual winner, Jovita Uju Onwudiwe of the AA, who polled 5,492 votes. The 2027 contest is therefore another opportunity for Orgazi to seek the mandate of the people of Njaba, but he is not expected to have the field to himself. Among those associated with the race is Hon. Ozioma Ebonine, the incumbent member representing Njaba State Constituency, whose political future in the contest has been the subject of discussion among stakeholders. Umuaka Times previously reported that supporters of Orgazi had acknowledged Ebonine’s record in office while maintaining that the 2027 contest should remain open to democratic competition.

Other political interests are also expected to emerge as the 2027 election approaches, making the contest potentially competitive as aspirants and political parties position themselves for the nomination and general election. Orgazi’s current international tour adds a diaspora dimension to his campaign strategy. While Nigerians living abroad will not directly cast ballots in the constituency under the existing electoral arrangement, political candidates frequently use diaspora engagements to connect with community organizations, supporters, financiers and influential stakeholders whose relationships with their home communities can extend beyond the countries where they reside.

For Brainbox, the meetings in Texas and the planned engagements across New Jersey, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania and other locations represent an effort to build that wider network of support before the formal electoral contest gets fully underway. The politician has previously argued that voters should have an opportunity to hear directly from all candidates through public debates and compare their programs and ideas. As the 2027 political season progresses, attention is expected to turn increasingly to the candidates seeking the Njaba Assembly seat, their programs, party nominations and the eventual choice that will be presented to the electorate.
