“We are aware of hardship in Nigeria.” Eze Ikeme.
3 min readThe United States of America based president of Umuagba Diaspora Organization (UDO), Eze Ikeme has given an insight into why the organization which is “an umbrella body encompassing all Umuagba sons and daughters by birth and their families residing outside Imo state” remembered their wives, mothers and sisters during this year’s Christmas celebration.
In a brief chat with Umuaka Times correspondent in America, Ikeme who painfully acknowledged and lamented seriously over the state of things and hardship in the country especially in Imo State, told Umuaka Times that it was the spirit of love for one another among the sons and daughters of Umuagba that inspired the project. This is in view of the mission of the Umuezeala Obiato Uba based organization’s mission which focuses on coordinating, encouraging, guiding and serving one another in any capacity possible.
While speaking with Umuaka Times last week, Ikeme confirmed thus: “This year just as we did in 2021, we considered the undeniable hardships at home and the highest rate of inflation known to us and lack of affordability of basic needs at home and agreed to aid our home makers at home by providing a basic staple food like rice this Christmas to ensure that every child in Umuagba is fed this Christmas celebration irrespective of their family income.”
Umuaka Times also gathered that a total of 36 bags of rice were provided by the organization for the purpose of making sure that no Umuagba kitchen stays without food during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Armed with this information over the state of things in Nigeria, Ikeme continued, “the organization came together and donated 36 bags of rice to be distributed among all the kitchens in Umuagba including all our sisters (Umuada) who are sacrificing their careers and in some cases luxuries outside, to come home and help maintain a stable home for us”.
The president of Umuagba Diaspora Organization also disclosed to Umuaka Times that his organization is already working on “developing a pilot program which will give an interest free loan to qualified petty women traders and other entrepreneurs”.
From an official document sent to Umuaka Times by Eze Ikeme, it was gathered that a total number of 23 indigenes of the community contributed money for the project. They are:

Also we want to use this medium to encourage other neighboring families to emulate the effort and kindness extended to our families at home. I want to use this time also to thank all our members and their families for their kindness and ask God to protect each and everyone of us and our families during this holiday and Christmas celebrations.”
