Trouble may be brewing at the corridors of power of UmuakaEbeIri royal fathers and the executive members of the Old Boys’ Association of St Saviour’s College Umuaka following the relocation of the great institution from Usiozi community to Amiyi community and the subsequent possession of the land mapped out for HSU by a federal college.

From the details of a press release by the old boys which was signed by Chief UjuOleribe, the Secretary General of the association, Sir PeterLazOkoroha as member, School Development Committee and Prince Charles Okoro also a member of the association which was made available to Umuaka Times last week by HRH Eze Victor Ijeoma, a clash between royal fathers and the Old Boys’ Association of HSU may open a new chapter of legal tussles unless the process is nipped in the board.

From the press release dated 13 May 2025, the letter reads: “Our attention has been drawn to a letter served on all members of Akah City Council of NdiEze by the Old Boys Association of St. Saviours College, Umuaka which said letter is dated 01 – 04 – 2025 and signed by the trio of Chief UjuOleribe as Secretary General, Sir PeterLazOkoroha as Member, School Development Committee and Prince Sir Charles Okoro as Member respectively.”

The letter continued: “The said letter under reference is to the effect that they, the Old Boys are putting us on notice that between April 1 and May 31, 2025, they shall move into the premises of the original premises of St. Saviours College, Umuaka to the portion allocated to St. Saviours Secondary School Umuaka, which have since been relocated to AmiyiAkah with the purpose of commencing development to actualize the cohabitation of St. Saviours Secondary School, Umuaka with the new Federal Science and Technical College, Umuaka attracted by the Imo State Government and sited at the College.”

The letter states that “According to the Old Boys, they have mobilized resources to facilitate the development of the portion allocated to them by the Bishop. Having critically examined the letter and their proposed action, we have taken our position in alliance with the government’s wisdom in establishing and citing the school in Umuaka and in the premises of the old St. Saviours College premises.”

The royal fathers expressed their disagreement over the proposed move by the old boys. “This, we feel is in anticipation that it will pave way to a tertiary institution in Akah land. Amiyi-Akah community having donated an appropriate land space for the relocation of the St. Saviours Secondary School, and the Imo State Government’s assistance towards the funding of the necessary structures for the smooth take off and the proper take off and full relocation of the school at Amiyi-Akah, it is the position of Akah City Council of NdiEze that this is a settled development and a welcome one indeed. We therefore wish to further state as follows:-

That all efforts and support should be made by the indigenous people of AkahEbeIri to sustain both schools at their various locations. That we, the Akah City Council of NdiEze completely reject the idea of cohabitation as being arranged and suggested by the Old Boys Association or any plan designed to frustrate government efforts to establish or open up our institutions in Akah land. Address: The Haven of Peace, Isiozi-AkahNjaba L.G.A., Imo State. Tel: 08035225327 3.

That we, the Akah City Council of NdiEze have never at any time or forum agreed with any person or persons that St. Saviours Secondary School should be moved out of its present location at Amiyi-Akah to any other place or back to the old premises.  That we join all progressive minds in AkahEbeIri to suggest and we hereby resolve and direct that the Federal Science and Technical School, Umuaka should be allowed the enjoyment and occupation of the old premises of St. Saviours College while the St. Saviours Secondary School, Umuaka shall also enjoy their facilities at Amiyi-Akah as respectively envisioned and supported by the Imo State Government. That the Old Boys should be in a better position to understand how retrogressive cohabiting the two schools will be in the situation.”

The irony in the whole drama is that most of the royal fathers in Umuaka also are members of the Old Boys’ Association of HSU. There is a general wish in town that the issue is resolved amicably.
