Ogbako Umunwanyi Igbo Worldwide on Saturday, August 15, 2026, held its 2026 Annual August Meeting at the Main Hall of the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus (UNEC), bringing together Igbo women and other stakeholders for a celebration centred on women’s empowerment, cultural values and support for vulnerable persons.The event, which commenced at 10am, featured the inauguration of the Enugu State Branch of the organization, the conferment of traditional titles on 16 deserving Igbo sons and daughters, and a fundraising campaign for the construction of a motherless babies’ home for vulnerable children in Enugu State.
Held under the theme, “Nwanyị, Ike Obodo” (Woman, the Strength of the Nation), the gathering highlighted the important role of women in community development, cultural preservation, humanitarian service and the advancement of the society.The event had the presence of very important dignitaries from far and wide.
Umuaka Times gathered that the Royal Majesty Igwe Ambassador V. C. Onah, a professor and KSM, was the Royal Father of the Day.The President of OgbakoUmunwanyi Igbo Worldwide, IyomEziAda Ifeoma Caroline Okpara Nwadike, served as host, while Ezi Ada Dr. Jane Onyinye Obioha, a barrister at law was inaugurated as the president of the newly established Enugu State Branch.Sixteen distinguished Igbo sons and daughters were honoured with traditional titles during the ceremony.
Professor Florence O. Orabueze, and Prof. Paschal Okolie delivered keynote addresses, while High-Chief Obioha, Kingsley Chukwu Episteme, a distinguished professor gavehealth talk on disease prevention, Rev. Father Paschal Anekewho was also present during the event served as the Spiritual Father of the Day.
Beyond its cultural significance, Umuaka Times reporters who covered the event gathered that the meeting provided a platform for humanitarian intervention, particularly through the fundraising initiative for a proposed motherless babies’ home for vulnerable children in Enugu State. The initiative underscored the organization’s commitment to extending its activities beyond cultural affairs to social welfare and community development.
According to information Umuaka Times obtained from the president of the newly established Enugu State Branch, Ezi Ada Dr. Jane Onyinye Obioha, the successful inauguration of the Enugu State Branch also marked another step in the organization’s efforts to strengthen its presence.
Several members of the society both in and outside Nigeria sent in their congratulatory messages to the women and expressed their appreciation towards the bold moves the organization is making in Igboland, most especially the inauguration of the new Enugu chapter.
