Oru Ibele celebrates as Anokwute’s children build, furnish house for widow.

(Entire community turns out in thanksgiving, songs and prayers as Madam Nnenna Añunne moves into new home).

The people of Oru Ibele in Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State have celebrated an uncommon act of kindness after the children of Mazi Valentine Anokwute built and furnished a two-bedroom apartment for Madam Nnenna Añunne, a widow from the community. The new home, which was also stocked with food items, cooking utensils, pots and other household necessities, was formally presented to the widow in an atmosphere of joy and thanksgiving.

Madam Añunne moved into the newly completed apartment on Sunday, August 23, 2026, marking what many described as a new chapter in her life.The presentation attracted a large crowd of Oru Ibele people, who gathered to witness the occasion and express their appreciation to the children of Mazi Valentine Anokwute for remembering and honouring a woman who had cared for them when they were young.The atmosphere throughout the community was peaceful and celebratory, with residents singing songs of thanksgiving, offering prayers and openly expressing their happiness over the gesture. Family members, community leaders, friends and well-wishers joined the celebration, while prayers were offered for the continued success and wellbeing of the benefactors.

According to members of the Anokwute family, Madam Añunne had played an important role in their lives when they were growing up, caring for them and showing them kindness at a time when they were still children.However, while expressing her appreciation for the gesture, Madam Añunne appeared to play down the significance of what she had done for the children in the past. She explained that she never considered her actions towards them as anything extraordinary, describing them simply as things she did as part of her relationship with the family.

Recounting how the new house project came about, the widow said the children of Mazi Valentine Anokwute visited her and saw the condition in which she was living. According to her, they returned the following day and commenced the house project because they were not comfortable with her living circumstances.Deeply moved by the gesture, Madam Añunne prayed for the benefactors and asked God to continue to strengthen, empower and bless them. She also expressed appreciation to everyone who attended the house presentation and joined in celebrating the milestone with her.

Speaking with Umuaka Times last week, the chairman of Oru Ibele General Assembly, Mr Chigozie Dike, said the entire Oru Ibele community was overwhelmed by the generosity displayed by the children of Mazi Valentine Anokwute. Mr Dike said the gesture had brought joy to the community and demonstrated the importance of remembering people who made sacrifices and contributed positively to one’s life during difficult or formative years.

The celebration was widely regarded as more than a house presentation, as residents saw it as an occasion to honour kindness, gratitude and the enduring bonds that exist within the community.

With songs, prayers, thanksgiving and expressions of goodwill dominating the occasion, Oru Ibele came together to celebrate both Madam Añunne’s new home and the spirit of gratitude demonstrated by the Anokwute family.
