3 min read

About 29,219 days culminating into 82 fulfilled solid sojourn on earth apparently became a shining star in the family of late chief Ahumaraeze Onuigbo and late Lolo Adanma of Umunkuta Amiyi-Akah, Njaba Local Government area Imo State.

In 1939, the dawn light was greeted with the cheering news of a new born baby, so beautiful and shining like early morning star rising from the east.

Chigereolum was the already anointed name awaiting its bearer. My grandmother, Late Lolo Adanma Ahumaraeze Onuigbo gave our mother, her first child the name, Chigereolum, an expression of answered prayer. Lolo Adanma had in the previous years before mama’s birth lost her kids to death. Mama’s arrival therefore brought so much joy to the family. Through her father, late Chief Ahumaraeze Onuigbo had already gotten four kids from his other wives whereas mama’s mother (Lolo Adanma) was in anguish for the loss of her children up until her “chi” answered.

Young Chigereolum started growing up in wisdom and vigor through to her age of maturity into a beautiful damsel when our father, Chief Diala Damian Nwanyanwu, a handsome looking hardworking young man discovered the irresistible beauty and uniqueness in the character to our late mother. As days rolled by, fate kept defining their love for each other till our mother and father got married in 1954.

Though mama never had formal education but her wisdom was far reaching. The management of her home and business was the  greatest yield of the application of her nature given wisdom. Like she told us her children that in her next world, she would get to the climax of education if there were anything like returning-back to earth.

Our late mother worked so hard with our father to ensure that we their eight children had quality university education and better developed in life.

Our mother was enterprising in her business. She traded on coconut while living with her husband in Onitsha. While at home in the aftermath of Nigeria civil war, mama became a well known dealer on textile materials, a business she thrived in and earned herself a business identity tag as “Nwanyi Ocha Na Ere Akwa.”

Mama was also proficient in farming to generate food for her family and for commercial purpose. Her agricultural produce became hot cake when people who used them usually confirmed bumper harvest from the varieties of the seedlings purchased from our mother after each farming season. They usually booked ahead of planting seasons.

Mama’s social life was top notch as she loved traveling around the world meeting with people, visiting site-seeing places. She was a member of Odoziaku Social Club of Umuaka.

Ezinne Cordelia Chigereolum Nwanyanwu was very exceptional in her Christian faith. Mama derived joy in building the church and showing love to others. As a member of  Roman Catholic Church, mama never missed praying her Rosary. Every day, she  attended morning Mass and always attended Sunday Mass, and she belonged to pious societies such as Bible Society of Nigeria , Legion of Mary and Precious Blood of Jesus Christ. In 2012. Mama was crowned Ezinne by St. Joseph Catholic Church Isiozi-Akah in honor of her unconditional dedication to the growth of the church and she died on her way to the church when a moving vehicle snuffed life out her.

A painful death our prayer warrior went through.

A painful death out battle absorber went through.

A painful death our life giver went through.

A painful death our loving caring mother went through.

Moving vehicle, you have taken away our dear mother from us and rendered us forever motherless.

Do we deserve your judgment? What sin did our mother commit to have deserved death by you?

Oh you moving vehicle, you have summoned us unprepared, as against our wishes from all over the world to bid a hearth broken farewell to a woman that never harmed a soul while living, a peaceful woman who always derived joy seeing others progress, a woman so precious to her husband, children, grandchildren, in-laws, the church and her society.

You have killed Nne Ora. Mama is survived by her husband and a host of descendants.

Nne Ora Nile, Ga Nke Oma

Rest in peace our quintessential mother.
