At the wakes night of Sir Henry Oguike.
2 min readThe night of Thursday 28 October 2021was memorable in the Umuduruori family clan of Umuezikoha Uba, Umuaka in Njaba LGA of Imo State. It was a night of grief and emotional pains among the entire members of Oguike family, their relations, friends and others who gathered to pay their last tributes to the late South African based philanthropist and legal practitioner, Sir Henry Oguike who passed away a couple of months back in South Africa after a serious health crisis.
By the time Umuaka Times reporter who covered the event arrived at the family compound of the Oguikes during the wakes night, many people, Christian fathers, mothers, Umuada, youths and many others too numerous to mention had all gathered for the night. There was also a heavy presence of South African based Akalites and some members of the New Umuaka Project Initiative NUPI, who against all odds, managed to make it during the night.
On the side of entertainments, Umuaka Times observed several music groups including Nwa Darling Entertainment Band, a group of youthful band who got almost everybody at night dancing and singing their songs throughout the time the group mounted the “stage.”
Because Sir Henry Oguike was a man of the people who gave out what he had willingly, a solid arrangement was successfully put in place for the feeding and other forms of entertainment for the mourners who were present during the wake keep. Umuaka Times gathered that there was a huge supply of food and assorted drinks as well as suya.
The people who were in charge of security also did a good job as no record of theft of any kind was mentioned. The wakes night for the late Sir Henry Oguike was very peaceful which was indeed a direct depiction of the character and personality Oguike was made of during his lifetime.
