Chief Demian Amadi goes home.
3 min readThe remains of the late Amandugba born educationist, devote Christian and top community leader, Chief Demian Orjiakor Amadi were interred yesterday December 29 2022, in his home town Umuduruohu Uloano Ndugba of Isu LGA Imo State. From the start of the day especially when the Umuaka Times reporters arrived at the family compound, without being told, the reporters observed that a VIP had indeed bade the world goodbye. The compound which wore a totally new look was decorated in many ways by some outdoor decorators who had prepared for the big event. In few minutes time, the family members and some other relations as well as kinsmen and women departed for the Aladimma Mortuary where the remains of the amiable chief was deposited. Due to some logistics and a good number of other families that also had the remains of their dead ones deposited at the mortuary, there was a little delay in Aladimma.
The motorcade that went from Amandugba to Owerri to escort the body home was already waiting together with the cameramen and other media crews, ambulance and more. In about 2 hours time, the motorcade left for Amandugba straight to the family compound of the late Chief Amadi.
One of the anchors of the event after being informed that the motorcade was nearby, he announced to the crown that had come to say their final good bye and pay their respect to Chief Amadi to be ready to welcome his corpse. Soon, the motorcade reached the family compound and their arrival was greeted by a couple of gun salutes to the amazement of everyone.
The undertakers without a waste of time, took the corpse inside for family members, colleagues, in-laws and many more to pay their last respect. This process lasted for about 20 minutes and it was time for another segment of the day’s program. Because the family did not in any way want to stress those who came to sympathize with them, it was announced that the requiem Mass would hold in the family compound.
When the Mass service started, the large Amadi compound had already filled up totally. Many who could not get any vacant position stayed outside the compound and still took part in the Mass service. This according to one particular fellow who sat very close to Umuaka Times reporter was an indication that Chief Amadi lived a good life worthy of emulation.
The officiating priest who conducted the requiem Mass also was very homely and never wanted to waste a minute as the event was already running behind schedule. He spoke about life, death, repentance and the need for followers of Jesus Christ to live an upright life. He tasked Christians to always know their creator and draw themselves closer to him.
By the time the church service was over, the interment followed immediately without wasting time. After saying some funeral prayers and hymns, the casket containing the remains of the 83 year old teacher, chieftaincy title holder and educationist from the famous Umuduruhuo Uloano Ndugba was lowered to the 6 feet grave, signaling the end of an era for the man who many would find very difficult to believe that he is no more.
