A high profile Akalite and a medical professional based in the United Kingdom by name Dr Udochukwu Kings Nwaokorobia has indicated his interest to run for councillorship in the Glasgow City Council. Already his political party has given him the opportunity as the flag bearer for the political office he seeks to occupy.

This information was contained in a whatsapp message sent to the Umuaka Times correspondent in the United Kingdom last week by Dr Udochukwu himself. While explaining why he was going into politics, the Umuele Amazano born medical doctor confirmed his interest to join politics from the councillorship level in his own words. Hear him. “I am going to campaign against the inequalities minority communities experience in health and social care welfare.”

Umuaka Times gathered that Dr Udochukwu will be contesting against four other parties in the election which comes up in May 2022. If he wins, he will be the councilor representing the Glasgow City Council.

Already, the campaign has already begun as members of ALBA Party are busy running the show for the illustrious Akalite. Those who know Dr Udochukwu very well can testify that he is not new in the game of politics. About 10 years ago, he joined the Scottish National Party and has served in different capacities meritoriously before moving on to ALBA Party. While in Nigeria, the geneticist and biomolecular medicine specialist was a former SUG welfare officer at the University of Calabar and a former president of Umuaka Students Union. He was also the former vice president Njaba Students Association when Hon Emeka Ihenacho, the current chairman of Njaba LGA was the president. Currently, Dr Udochukwu is the admin of Umuele Amazano United Assembly Worldwide.

When the Umuaka Times correspondent in the UK requested his closing speech and to explain deeper why he has made himself available for an elective office in the UK, he concluded by saying, “Due to the impact of Covid19 on Africans and other ethnicities in the City of Glasgow and the systematic inequalities that we have faced and are still facing, these necessitated me to come out for councillorship so I can be part of the change in policies to shortchange us.”

This is not the first time a Diasporan Akalite was standing for an election overseas. In 2021, Mr Gilson Chinozie Umunnakwe, a 25 year old Akalite from Isiozi who lives in the United States contested for the City Councilman 5 under the Democratic Party arrangements to represent the famous Allen Council Place 5.

Umuaka Times will be following the ambition of Dr Udochukwu closely as the election date draws nearer.
