Eze Justin, others receive Umuaka Times awards as he presents Xmas gifts to Akalites, others.

The much awaited December palliatives distributed by the royal father of Obinwanne Umuaka Autonomous Community, HRM Eze Justin Ezeala were received today with joy and jubilations by the presidents-general of the ten communities in Umuaka and others.

The event which took place at the palace of the royal father attracted several Akalites who either came to witness the event or to represent their communities. After the opening prayers, Barrister Chukwuma Ezeala who introduced himself as the Ebubeagu of Igboland was the person who made the opening speech. Barrister Ezeala told the audience that “the gathering of today is part of the annual celebration Onye Eze does to assist the poor, his village and Umuaka generally.”


Barrister Ezeala went further to announce that the event was very special in the history of Obinwanne town because the event marks the 5 years of his kingship and the autonomous status of Obinwanne community.

In addition to that, the event was also done in commemoration of the 25 years of marriage between the monarch and his wife.

By the time he was through with his speech, the Master of Ceremony called upon the Umuaka Times representatives to come forward and present their awards to the royal father and other Obinwanne indigenes who won the prestigious Umuaka Times Merit Awards 2023 edition.

In few minutes time, everything was set for the presentation and the Parish Priest of St Patrick’s Catholic Church Obinwanne, Rev Fr Anthony Ohams was called upon to handle the presentations. HRM Eze Justin Ezeala was the first to receive his Royal Father of the Year Award. Thereafter a loud ovation immediately followed. Others who also received theirs were Miss Victory Uzoigwe who won the Youngest Female Author of the Year Award. Miss Vivian Amarachi Agu won the Academic Excellence Award for being the first Akalite to bag a Master’s Degree in Microbiology.

Imo State Fastest Developing Autonomous Community of the Year Award and Imo State Most Organized and United Autonomous Community Award also went to Obinwanne Umuaka. Finally, the late Professor JOL Ezeala got a posthumous award for Lifetime Achievement.

The late Professor’s posthumous award signaled the end of the award presentation segment of the occasion. Then the main event came into focus. Royal fathers, presidents-general and many more people including those from outside Umuaka received their gifts in peace on behalf of their communities. Those who witnessed the event kept singing the praises of HRM whose benevolence has no limits.
