Master Ugochukwu Iwunna set to undergo surgery in Enugu
2 min readThe much awaited correctional surgery for Master Ugochukwu Iwunna, a 15 year old Akalite an urgent medical attention to enable him start passing urine without the aid of a pipe, will soon be carried out. The current industrial action by resident doctors across the country has been a serious challenge towards the realization of the medical mission for Master Iwunwa.
Last week, Professor, Obioha Kingsley Chukwu Episteme, a consultant obstetrician and gynecologist, cosmetic and aesthetic surgeon as well as a fertility guru, informed Umuaka Times that there would be no need to continue waiting for the industrial action to be called off. In his views, “even if the industrial action is called off today, the surgery may still not be conducted as soon as possible because many booked surgeries will first be attended to before his own.”
For the above reason, the Umuaka born consultant recommended that the surgery would be carried out in another private hospital in Enugu, instead of the University of Nigerian Teaching Hospital UNTH Enugu.
It can be recalled that a couple of months ago, Ugochukwu was in Enugu for several evaluations and the results were in his favour. Many Akalites who spoke with Umuaka Times concerning the little boy, have all been praying for him and successful surgery and soonest recovery.
By Friday this week, Master Ugochukwu and his dad would be expected in Enugu for the final evaluation of Ugochukwu and after which, a date will be given to them. a couple of weeks ago, was taken to the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital UNTH, Enugu, under the supervision of Umuaka born. In a recorded video message released by Professor Obioha over two weeks ago to give an update to many Akalites who have demonstrated solidarity and support to the family of the little boy, the only delay in the case of Ugochukwu Iwunna has been the resident doctors’ industrial action. He promised that the moment the industrial action by resident doctors is called off, the family will be informed to prepare for the surgery.
