The wife of Professor Mazi Ojiaku, Mrs Nneoma Lady Adamma Ojiaku has extolled the virtues of the late Miss Duruigbo who was laid to rest last week. According to Mrs Ojiaku, Miss Duruigbo was one of those girls whose parents sent to school ahead of them. Mrs Nneoma Lady Adamma Ojiaku  told Umuaka Times that Miss Duruigbo became her mentor when they both met during their school days in primary school. Mrs Ojiaku recalled that both of them usually met during holidays as they usually visited each other.

Mrs Ojiaku told Umuaka Times that on one occasion when  Miss Duruigbo was a student in Enyiogugu Mbaise, she (Miss Stella Ikeme as she was known then) took her entrance to enrol into post primary school and did so well. This, according to her promoted the Reverend Father who was the principal of the school where Miss Duruigbo was, to announce in Church if any of the students knew one Miss Stella Ikeme. Miss Duruigbo shouted saying, “She is my sister.” Then the Rev Father told Miss Duruigbo to inform Miss Stella Ikeme to come and perfect her registration and start schooling at the same school. The reason for this request according to now Mrs Nneoma Lady Adamma Ojiaku was that she did so well in the entrance examination.

Nneoma Ojiaku regretted that her parents never allowed her to enrol at the same school with Miss Duruigbo. She had to enrol in another school. Unknown to her, her mother had already arranged that she would enrol at St Joseph’s Training School Aba and there Miss Stella Ikeme found herself eventually.

On the type of teacher Miss Duruigbo was, Mrs Ojiaku told Umuaka Times that Miss Duruigbo was a good example of a dedicated teacher. She admitted that most of her teaching years were outside the Umuaka locality. “But be that as it may, Miss was the humblest of any human beings. She could come down to any level and she could interact with the people of authority. As a teacher she was mainly in Owerri area only coming home during holidays.”

On the lifestyle of Miss Duruigbo, Mrs Ojiaku told Umuaka Times that she was a very simple person who dressed simply and took her job seriously. This according to her, made her to impact positively on her students. She finally asked God to receive the soul of Miss Josephine Nwaulari Duruigbo in his Paradise.
