Okey Nwoke stresses the need for more banks in Umuaka.
2 min readYouthful politician and member, Nigerian Society of Engineers NSE, Ambassador Okey Nwoke has stressed the need for Umuaka staker holders and bankers to bring a new bank in Umuaka in order to serve the commercial and banking needs of the community. Engineer Nwoke made this call in a brief interview he had with Umuaka Times last week while discussing the hell Akalites go through while trying to access their money from the only commercial bank in the community, UBA.
Nwoke who is a confirmed United Nations Ambassador for Millennium Development Goals while holding talks with Umuaka Times, wondered why a large community in the status of Umuaka with about 100,000 inhabitants will boast of only one commercial bank. He further disclosed that the bank in Umuaka serves the banking needs of other nearby communities like Ekwe, Amurie, Amandugba, Isu, Umundugba, Orodo, Okwudor and many others.
Ambassador Nwoke did not only make the advocacy for the community to attract another bank for the people, he further suggested a venue where the new bank would be situated. According to him the old Post Office complex which is a large portion of land can be converted and be used for the banking purpose. ”All you need to do is to hold a meeting with the relevant government agency and the place will be released for us for use.”
Asked why he felt that the community needs a new bank, the youthful UN Ambassador narrated the high level of trauma Akalites have been undergoing since the ill-fated Federal Government’s Naira redesign policy. He also added that a new bank in Umuaka will encourage competition, boast businesses and attract more security in the community.
