2 min readThe chairman of Umuezikoha Uba Council of Chiefs, Chief Raphael Duruji has given full explanation to the occasion of “ikporute chief ulo” (chieftaincy title home-coming) to those who are yet to understand the meaning properly. The Umuaka Times reporters who covered the event of chieftaincy title home-coming of Chief Linus Okwara which was held on Saturday July 8, 2023 in his country home in Umuezikoha Uba Umuaka, had an exclusive interview with Chief Duruji on the significance of the ritual where he gave the explanations.
According to Chief Duruji, the celebration of chieftaincy title home coming is the final segment in in the process of taking a chieftaincy title in Umuaka and environs. Chief Duruji further explained that after the obtainability of a chieftaincy title outside one’s village, the next thing the recipient of the chieftaincy title will do is to embark on the final journey of chieftaincy title home coming (known in Igbo language as “ikporute chief ulo”).
On the day of the event according to Chief Duruji, family members, chiefs and their lolos as well as friends will be invited to witness the event of the endorsement and acceptance of the chieftaincy title by the kinsmen and the council of chiefs. In his words Duruji told Umuaka Times thus. “When this is done, the recipient of the chieftaincy title will then be addressed as a chief in any part of the world.”
By this pronouncement according to Chief Raphael Duruji, it can now be said over the mountains of the world that Linus Okpara is now a full-fledged and undiluted chieftaincy title holder, officially addressed as Chief Linus Okpara, the Ugo Si Na Chi 1 of Umuaka.
