By the time Umuaka Times arrived at the family house of the Nwariwes on the night of Thursday 19 April 2023 in Obinwanne Umuaka community for the wakes night of the later Mrs Eucharia Iheomaagwuagwu Nwariwe, it was indeed a full family compound with Umuada, Christian fathers and others who had come to stay with the family for the night.

The reporters from Umuaka Times spoke with some few members of the family and breezed out to the country home of Chief Emeka Nwariwe, the Akusinanwata and the first son of the late woman of substance. On their arrival at the country home of Akusinanwata, it was like a complete carnival-like event that comes once a year; several musical groups, social clubs and youth organizations as well as faith based organizations and friends and well-wishers had all gathered to pay their last respect. Cultural music makers, DJ, band boys and many more were all ready to entertain the wake keepers.

A peep outside the compound, especially on the Obinwanne Amurie Road, shows a lineup of several cars and sports utility vans and a good number of motorcycle boys who came to witness the historic “carnival” from Umuaka, Ekwe, Amurie, Amandugba, Umundugba, Orodo and more. The effective Obinwanne Security outfit was also monitoring the event and making some observations.

The master of ceremony who was full of humour severally announced to the mourners to be patient because real musical entertainments would start immediately by midnight according to Catholic Church rule and agreements with the bereaved family.

Talking of drinks and other chewable items, none of them was in short supply throughout the night. Champaign and other high quality drinks like red wines of different brands got “beheaded” on almost every table in all the canopies. An Obinwanne big boy who witnessed the whole scenario just asked to no one in particular, “Is this a suya night carnival or a wake keep?”

From all indications, those who came for the wake keep of the late Mrs Eucharia Iheoma Nwariwe, a woman of substance indeed showed that the woman in question who lived for 70 eventful years was loved by all.
