3 min read

Last week was indeed a seriously bad week for Umuaka community and her people. Someone who watched several tragic scenes and incidents in the community concluded that Pandora’s box has been stationed in the community and the  devil himself has opened it.

First incident took place at early last week in Umuezealal Uba where yet to be identified gunmen stormed a popular family in search of a particular tenant. The tenant was able to escape unhurt. This miraculous escape provoked the gun men the more and they set the house and the car belonging to the tenant ablaze. According to some youths who spoke to Umuaka Times, there were several gunshots during the time the invasion was going on.

Barely 24 hours or so after the incident, there were gunshots at Ime Afor modern market. Traders, comprising of market women, buyers and sellers ran helter skelter in order to avoid being hit by stray bullet. Speculations had it that it was kidnappers that were shooting the guns to scare people while others said they were armed robbers who wanted to rob a motorist.

Still within the tragic week, the worst eventually happened. Two motorcycle boys Chikwado Green and Chidiebere Okpara who were gambling had a disagreement which they could not settle. One of the gamblers named Chikwado Green from Amakor community was said to have pulled a bottle and stabbed his gambling colleague. According to a voice note message Umuaka Times stumbled into last week, the victim who was from Obeakpu was taken to about two hospitals and he was rejected before he eventually died. Angered by the tragic death of a the promising young lad, youths suspected to be either from Obeakpu or friends of the victim stormed the family compound of Chikwado Green in Amakor and set some houses ablaze. This incident has indeed generated serious apprehension in both communities and beyond. As at press time last week, Umuaka Times could not confirm if any arrest has been made so far or not.

Mr Obinna Nganwuchu, an easy going boy from Uba died in Lagos where he was living. According to reports that greeted his demise, Obinna’s death left some  imprints that suggested that he may have committed suicide by drinking a very dangerous substance. All Akalites who witnessed what happened last week were really asking what really went wrong with the community. There were also other tragic insidents that still took place in the community last week which Umuaka Times could not ascertain as at press time.
