Umuaka women receive N50,000 grants from WCC.

It was celebration unlimited among 60 Umuaka women who were successful in the women empowerment program of Women’s Crisis Centre, WCC. For a couple of months going, the WCC has been involved in different empowerment programs for the girls and women in Umuaka. Some activities like essay competition and the presentation of different types of business proposals were used as yardstick to determine the winners and beneficiaries. The sum of N50,000 each was eventually given to the women to support their businesses.

Prominent among these women were various village and kindred leaders. The women leaders were picked as a sign of encouragement for their selfless services to the community of Umuaka.

While answering questions from Umuaka Times shortly anger the program, the Executive Director of Women’s Crisis Centre, Ms Lesley Chinwe Agams, said that one of the key purposes for the disbursement of funds to the women was because of the harsh effects of Cvid119. In her analysis, Covid19 did not kill many people n the state and the Umuaka but it created a deep economic crisis globally which reached Umuaka. She strongly made an advocacy to government and donor agencies to always invest in women because they are less likely to misappropriate the funds. Agams further commended the Umuaka women for their industry and love for their families.

The donor agency that provided the cash for the women was Open Society Institute for West Africa OSIIWA.

Agams finally promised to build the capacity of the women and create a co-operative society for them.
