2 min read

23 year old Wisdom Okoro is a dancer with an unusual body mechanics. Every part of his body is a dancing tool which he uses in an absolutely unusual way to thrill his admirers whenever the dance spirit possesses him. If the Ikeduru Imo State born student of IMSU were to transform to a book, he will be an “unputdownable” novel with a provocative thriller, romance and suspense seriously centred on dancing. As a student of statistics, Wisdom, whose stage name is Akwaaba told Umuaka Times last week that he calculates all his dance steps just like the way an experienced chess player calculates his moves on the chessboard. This calculation of dance steps has made Akwaaba the tireless dancing machine which he is today.

In a brief interview with Umuaka Times which was held in Owerri, Akwaaba was so happy that Umuaka Times has spotted him. He immediately granted the interview request from the newspaper when he was approached. “Dancing gives me real joy. Any day I do not dance, I will feel as if a part of me was missing.”

Akwaaba has over the years been paid for dancing at parties, universities and several other places. The trip to go professional started in 2006 when Akwaaba was much younger. The first dance group he danced with was known as Grip Entertainment crew which was doing shows in Owerri. When the group left Owerri and moved to Lagos, Akwaaba did not go with them because of some certain reasons. He then joined another group known as Elo Nija Entertainment crew. It is in Elo Nija that he built a successful career in dancing before he formed his own dance crew which he has named Spotlight Concept. This dance group is just a year old in the industry but it has grown like wildfire, making waves across the entire South East entertainment region and some parts of South South.

As a professional dancer, Akwaaba has toured the whole of South East, Abuja and Lagos. There are other two areas of entertainment Akwaaba wants to explore as well; modelling and Nollywood. “I have tried my hands on modelling and I did very well. In 2017, I won Mr Tourism at IMSU and before that I had won the Best Runway Model in 2014 organized by Godfathers Entertainment in Port Harcourt.

Akwaaba has also won Best Dancer of the Year Front Gate at IMSU.

In his dream to be an entertainment guru across the country, Akwaaba really hopes to be a brand name in dancing in the next 5 years when he must have built a standard dance academy known across West Africa.  The only challenge he has today is funding.

Akwaaba is currently one of the contestants in the ongoing Mr Universe Imo.
