The Obinwanne Umuaka Autonomous Community has petitioned the Inspector General of Police over the murder of Mr Onyinyechi Okebaram, an Obinwanne youth who was killed by some security agents of the state without provocation. Last week, Umuaka Times came across the acknowledged copy of the petition dated June 12 2023 addressed to the IGP on the murder of the young man.

The petition which was titled, Petition Against Officers of the Police Force on the Murder of Bonaventure Onyinyechi Okebaram, a Defenceless and Unarmed Young Man in Obinwanne Umuaka Njaba LGA Imo State on June 10 2023, was signed by Barrister Jude Ezeala of Professor Ezeala, Ezeala and Ezeala law firm.

The royal father of Obinwanne Umuaka Autonomous Community, HRM Eze Justin Ezeala, who last week vowed to get to the roots of the matter disclosed to Umuaka Times the progress so far made in the case. According to the press statement the monarch issued to Umuaka Times last week, the royal father and his entourage have paid an official visit to the bereaved fed family in order to commiserate with them and the entire people of Obinwanne.

Umuaka Times reliably gathered that the royal father has also made sure that all the brothels in Obinwanne are closed down pending when fresh orders will emerge to reopen them. He has also personally delivered the copies of the petition to the Governor of the state, Chief Hope Uzodimma, Hon members of Imo House of Assembly, IGP, Imo State Commissioner of Police and the Area Commander Orlu Police Division.

The Inspector General of Nigerian Police Force in a sharp reaction to the petition, has ordered a prompt investigation into the murder of Mr Okebaram with the aim of bringing the culprits to book.

Umuaka Times also gathered that the trigger-happy security officer who shot and killed Mr Okebaram has been apprehended and he is helping the police in her investigations.
