2 min readThe management of Hotel Hilltop, a modern recreational centre in Umuaka Municipal has thanked the royal father of Obinwanne Umuaka Autonomous Community, HRM Eze Justin Ezeala for his fatherly role and timely intervention over the crisis that erupted between the hotel and some Obinwanne youths following the killing of Mr Onyinyechi (Onyeego) Okebaram by men suspected to be members of Imo JTF three weeks ago. It can be recalled that a couple of weeks ago, some trigger happy police officers illegally stormed Obinwanne community and killed an armless civilian in the person of Mr Onyinyechi Okebaram at close range. The aggrieved Obinwanne youths who stormed the Hilltop Hotel in anger, alleged that the killing of Mr Okebaram was connected with Hotel Hilltop either directly or indirectly. They consequently vandalized some parts of the hotel and left.
The Obinwanne royal father subsequently paid an official visit to the hotel with some members of his cabinet. During his visit, the royal father condemned the act by some Obinwanne youths, apologized to the management of the hotel and pleaded with the hotel to pass the bill for the reconstruction of the vandalized property to Obinwanne community. He described as barbaric, the act of taking the laws into one’s hands and warned against further occurrences.
While reacting to the visit by the royal father of Obinwanne, the proprietor and the chief executive officer of Hotel Hilltop, Mr Chigozie Oscar Otujieme, expressed his happiness and joy over the maturity and spirit of love displayed by Eze Justin Ezeala and his cabinet members over the wanton destruction of the hotel by some aggrieved Obinwanne youths. “As you can see, Onye Eze was here to personally assess the level of damage. He did not come along but he came with his cabinet. We held talks and he is really someone I would always like to work with. I thank him so much for his concerns.”
In appreciation of what the royal father did, Mr Otujieme through his lawyers has written to the Obinwanne community, thanking the royal father and his people for their concerns and subsequently turning down the offer. While holding talks with Umuaka Times, he told the newspaper that it was not out of anger that he turned down the offer from Obinwanne people to repair the damaged parts of the hotel. “They have shown us love by their volunteerism and it is our turn to reciprocate in the same manner.”
Hotel Hilltop which was established in 2018 has been doing hospitality business in Umuaka since its inception till date. The hotel has created an extension known as Hilltop Akwaaba. Mr Otujeme finally sent his condolence message to the Obinwanne people over the killing of one of their sons, Mr Onyinyechi Okebaram.
