Odoemenem calls for reforms on the appointment of new police IG.
2 min readNjaba Local Government born politician and a high profile chieftain of APC in Imo State, Hon K.O. Odoemenem has called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to look into the method of appointing who will be the general overseer of the Nigerian Police Force otherwise known as the Inspector-General of Police. Odoenenam who recently called for the use of small arms by the police in order to reduce the tragedy of accidental discharges which often lead to loss of lives, across the country disclosed this to Umuaka Times last week in an exclusive interview with the newspaper.
From what Hon Odoemenem told Umuaka Times, there is a need to appoint a competent hand to handle the duties and affairs of Nigerian Police Force as it is done in some other parts of the world. “You see, you are a police man does not mean you are an administrator. One can do the work of the police effectively but cannot be a good administrator.”
The main reason for his advocacy is that the corruption in the Nigerian Police Force will never allow an Inspector-General of Police from the Police Force to function effectively.
While driving home his point, Odoemenem appealed to the masses and called for their support and the members of the national assembly to look into his advocacy and make it a reality. He used the opportunity and condemned in outright terms, the unending tragedy of accidental discharges across the country.
