Oghu Njiko Uba Umuaka ends in peaceful atmosphere.
2 min readThe much awaited Oghu Njiko Uba Umuaka was held on Wednesday August 22 2023 at the famous Hilltop Primary School Uba Umuaka. Although the event started very late as against the 1 pm takeoff time the event was scheduled to start but at the end of the event the dancers thrilled the spectators in no small way as everybody went home happily.
The oghu kicked off around some minutes after 3 pm with some selected children coming out first to open the floor. 4 gun-salute was fired to notify the people that the time to “kill a lion” has come. Thereafter, many spectators and high profile personalities invited for the big show started to arrive little by little. As usual, oghu masquerades were struggling with the oghu gate-keepers as they tried to customarily stop the oghu temporarily to announce their presence. As the struggle was being noticed by some spectators and the organizers of the show, the masquerades were allowed into the arena in order to prevent any form of distraction and confusion.
When the oghu reached its peak, the first and only ada echere who came for the event was ushered into the oghu arena to temporarily stop the oghu dance. Some good oghu dancers were selected to usher her into the arena fully. With her remarkable “ureness”, she danced majestically to the oghu beat until she got very close to the instrumentalists and with a wave of her right hand, she stopped the oghu. People welcomed her and sang her praises and in less than 10 minutes, she left the arena for another event.
Umuaka Times reporters confirmed that some of the top personalities who were invited for the event could not show up but other top personalities were also present during the event. Some chiefs from Umuezikoha Uba were adequately represented. There were also members of the organizing committee and some other top personalities including Chief Ifeanyi Duruojiaku, the chief priest of Oghu culture in the whole of Umuaka Municipal Council.
The oghu dance lasted till around 6pm when the sound of yet another 4 gun salute rented the air which signaled the end of the show.
It can be confirmed that several media men and women came to cover the event for their different media houses. Top among the media firms were Umuaka Times media team and the NTA reporters among others. The two media giants were conspicuously seen by spectators conducting interviews and the video recording of the event throughout the hours the dance lasted.
