An Uba Umuaka born Russian based businessman Mr Justice Ekene Onyeari has decried the level of social decay and neglect in Umuaka community and called for an urgent intervention. Onyeari who deeply expressed his frustrations on the insensitivity of state actors towards Umuaka angrily complained that no Akalite of note is occupying any government position in terms of appointment in the state.

On the state of roads in the community, Onyeari drew the attention of Umuaka Times to the road leading from Afor Umuaka to Ukwuoji and the one leading from Umuaka to Amaigbo. “You see, this is a terrible situation, the government is doing nothing for us in Umuaka. Our roads are bad and it appears they are waiting for the next election to seek our votes via those bad roads.”

Onyeari used the opportunity and called on Umuaka stakeholders to send a delegation to Imo State Government and Njaba LGA authorities to find out why the community is being neglected by the state.

For those who may not know, a document Umuaka Times came across last week reports that Umuaka is a vibrant town in Imo State, Nigeria, with a population of around 100,000 people, making it the largest demographic group in Njaba Local Government Area. The town is known for its rich cultural heritage, with the Oghu Festival being a major attraction. This festival, celebrated in July and August, showcases veiled dancers, masked spirits, and traditional delicacies. The town is also home to notable personalities like Emmanuel Emenike, a Nigerian national team member, and Helen Ukaonu, a gold medalist in the African female Nations Cup and many others.

Afor Umuaka Market is a significant commercial hub, attracting traders and visitors from surrounding communities. This market has been an important part of local trade routes for over 500 years, offering a wide range of products, including food crops, economic plants, and livestock.

The town’s cultural significance and economic activities suggest a growing focus on education. Umuaka’s residents are predominantly traders and farmers, with a strong emphasis on community development.
