Imo residents warned on the return of armed robbery attacks.

Akalites and nearby communities are on high alert following a recent surge in armed robbery attacks. The latest incident occurred on March 7, 2026, when armed robbers on a motorcycle shot a “motorcycle boy” along the Ikpa side of Obinwanne and escaped with his bike. The victim who sustained bullet wounds and is said to be receiving treatment in a local hospital.

This incident marks a disturbing trend in Southeast Nigeria, with reported cases in Anambra, Imo, and Delta states. In Anambra, a 26-year-old suspect, Ugochukwu Uzor, was arrested with a locally-made Beretta pistol and 11 live ammunition rounds, the suspect confessed to leading several criminal gangs.
The police are taking steps to combat the rising insecurity. In Imo, 25 suspects were were said to have been arrested for kidnapping, armed robbery, and terrorism, with firearms, vehicles, and illicit drugs recovered. In Delta, a gang armoury was busted, and five suspected cultists and robbers were arrested.
The authorities are intensifying efforts to address the situation, with the Anambra State Commissioner of Police ordering the re-arrest of two escaped suspects. Communities are advised to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the authorities.
