The community of IsioziAkah in Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State is witnessing what residents describe as a significant transformation, following years of philanthropic interventions by businessman and community benefactor, Mr. KentusOkwudiri Nwachukwu. Nwachukwu, who hails from the has through the Ignatius Echefu Nwachukwu Education Nwachukwu Duruoshinmiri royal family of IsioziAkah, Foundation supported education, poverty alleviation, community groups, religious institutions and other development initiatives in the community.

His interventions have now extended to physical infrastructure, with Nwachukwu currently building and tarring roads in IsioziAkah and installing solar-powered street lights.

When Umuaka Times visited IsioziAkah last week, the newspaper observed ongoing development in different parts of the community, including road construction and other infrastructure projects. Some residents who spoke with Umuaka Times during the visit expressed appreciation for the projects, saying that Nwachukwu’s interventions have brought increased attention to the community.

One of the residents said the activities of the philanthropist had “put IsioziAkah on the spotlight,” particularly because of the visible projects being undertaken in the community.

The residents also pointed to the road projects and solar lights as developments capable of improving movement, security and the general appearance of the community.

Besides the ongoing projects, one of the most sustained aspects of Nwachukwu’s philanthropy has been education. The Ignatius Echefu Nwachukwu Education Foundation currently provides full scholarships to about 80 secondary-school students, particularly beneficiaries from Duruigbo village in IsioziAkah. The foundation also reportedly supports about 35 university students, paying their school fees and providing each beneficiary with ₦300,000 annually for other expenses.

According to information previously provided by the foundation’s coordinator, about 15 students have already graduated through the scholarship program as at last year. The foundation Umuaka Times gathered, also provides school bags to scholarship beneficiaries. Nwachukwu’s educational assistance has not been restricted entirely to IsioziAkah. Umuaka Times previously reported that he offered a scholarship to a young girl he met at Imo Airport after reportedly becoming impressed by her intelligence.

The Ignatius Echefu Nwachukwu Education Foundation was established about five years ago in memory of Nwachukwu’s late elder brother, Ignatius Echefu Nwachukwu. According to the foundation’s coordinator, the late Ignatius was a successful electronics merchant based in Ibadan before he was killed by assassins. Nwachukwu is reported to be the sole founder and financier of the foundation. The foundation’s coordinator also previously disclosed that Nwachukwu contributes more than ₦10 million to the scholarship fund around January 1 each year, with the contribution for 2026 reported as ₦10 million.

Despite the road works and more, Nwachukwu has also established an annual poverty-alleviation program in IsioziAkah. Every January 1, the program is reportedly held at his Nwachukwu Duruoshinmiri compound, where members of the community receive food and other forms of assistance.

During the 2026 program, more than 450 people reportedly received bags of rice, while 300 gallons of groundnut oil were distributed.

Shoes were also reportedly distributed to men, women and children, while school bags were provided to scholarship beneficiaries.

The foundation’s coordinator further disclosed that Nwachukwu regularly sends money for the purchase and distribution of bread among people in Duruigbo village and surrounding areas.

Nwachukwu’s assistance has also included direct financial support to different groups in IsioziAkah. According to the foundation’s reported figures, ₦5 million was donated to women, while ₦2 million was provided to men. The youths also received ₦1 million, while another ₦5 million was reportedly donated to the traditional chiefs of Isiozi Akah. The interventions have therefore covered different sections of the community rather than being limited to a particular group.

Highly dependable sources in the community also informed Umuaka Times that Nwachukwu has also provided financial and material assistance to St Joseph’s Catholic Church, IsioziAkah. In January 2026, he reportedly donated ₦6 million to the church. He had earlier donated a soundproof generator to the church, reportedly about two years before the September 2026 interview with the foundation’s coordinator.

He has also undertaken to construct a hall for the church. The proposed church hall was estimated by the foundation’s coordinator at between ₦80 million and ₦100 million, with building proposals reportedly submitted by contractors. The church-hall project is being reported as an undertaking or proposed project and not as a completed project.

The ongoing road and solar-light projects represent a further expansion of Nwachukwu’s interventions in IsioziAkah. While his earlier programs concentrated heavily on scholarships, food distribution and financial assistance, the current infrastructure projects are directed at the wider physical environment of the community.

The ongoing road construction and tarring are expected to improve access within IsioziAkah, while the installation of solar-powered lights is introducing additional lighting to community roads and public areas. During its visit last week, Umuaka Times observed that the projects have already contributed to changes in the appearance of parts of the community. Residents who spoke with the newspaper said they believed the developments had helped attract attention to IsioziAkah and demonstrated the potential impact of private philanthropy when directed toward community infrastructure.

Based on figures previously provided by the foundation’s coordinator, at least ₦29 million in specifically stated monetary interventions was documented for 2026.

The reported figures include:

  • ₦10 million — scholarship fund
  • ₦5 million — IsioziAkah women
  • ₦2 million — men
  • ₦1 million — youths
  • ₦5 million — traditional chiefs
  • ₦6 million — St Joseph’s Catholic Church

The ₦29 million does not represent the total value of Nwachukwu’s philanthropy.

This excludes the cost of the rice, groundnut oil, shoes, school bags and bread distributed to residents, university and secondary-school scholarships already provided, the soundproof generator donated to the church, the ongoing road and solar-light projects and the proposed church hall.

The estimated ₦80 million to ₦100 million cost of the church hall is likewise a projected construction figure and should not be treated as money already spent.

Nwachukwu’s interventions in IsioziAkah now span several areas, including education, poverty alleviation, community infrastructure, religious support and assistance to women, men and youths. The scholarship program has provided educational support to dozens of students, while the annual January 1 program has provided food and other items to hundreds of residents. The financial donations to community groups and the support for St Joseph’s Catholic Church have added another dimension to his activities. With the addition of road construction, tarring and solar-powered lighting, Nwachukwu’s community interventions have increasingly moved beyond individual assistance to projects with a broader community-wide impact.

For residents of IsioziAkah who spoke with Umuaka Times during the newspaper’s recent visit, the visible changes are significant. They said Nwachukwu’s activities have brought their community into greater public attention, with one resident summing up the development by saying that Kentus Nwachukwu has indeed put IsioziAkah on the spotlight.

As the road and solar-light projects continue, residents are now watching to see how the ongoing infrastructure development will further change the community and complement the educational and humanitarian programs that have already become associated with the Nwachukwu name.
